Genius! Simply the best video about customization for Gnome! This reminded me why I fell in love with Linux back on 2004. I thought Compiz and the Cube along with the Burn my Windows effects were gone for good, I'm glad you can still use them on 2024. I ditched Windows 11 a few minutes ago and installed Fedora 40 which is one of my favorite Distros. I'm having so much fun going through these settings. I cannot thank you enough sir! Glad to hear you got it sorted out! If the Orchis theme is not affecting system apps like Settings or the File Explorer, try downloading it from GitHub and apply the theme using command: ./install.sh -l

And themes applied fully? When I tried to add themes this way, Adwaita either wasn't replaced at all or not fully. I needed to look for themes with install scripts through terminal, that have an option to replace adwaita

Hmm.. trying to mess with the shell and i got the user theme extension installed but not seeing the shell option to change at all. Not disabled or anything similar it's just not there for me.. lol

Same for me. No shell option. You can copy the gtk4 theme in .config/gtk4/ - this works for me.

Thanks for your comment. Since Ubuntu 24.04 LTS is very new, most available articles are based on older versions of GNOME. It might take some time for updated instructions to be published. For Orchis Theme, you can find the instructions on its GitHub page: github.com/vinceliuice/Orchis-theme. It works on GNOME 45, but I'm not sure about GNOME 46!

gnome works again in kali? i stop using gnome because it crashed on kali last month update, i have been using linux mint cinnamon version with light desktop because it has not let my brother half way dead in his use of linux, specially when his computer is not so new, i got a gnome crash last month and could not withstand the others desktops in kali so i just change to linux mint, i did not use a lot of kali pentest tools, but it was pretty functional for me using gnome in kali, also most software were working pretty fine, here in linux mint i have problems with the sync in mozilla firefox, the terminal does not help me as the kali one, and the screenshots are some kind of pain to take and edit, kali let me work pretty fine with mozilla, the terminal had a lot of assist functions and the screenshots were edited in an easy way. but mozilla has not bugged too many times in linux mint like in kali, my computer is pretty silent, and i like the minimalist way it has its things so i can program more time instead losing time on internet, it is a good thing, but i still miss having the terminal and tools all packed up right to my hands for cases and mental tranquillity.

Hey, I just want to say you did a good job on the video, very clear and concise. I just want to say that before installing the extensions manager i mistakenly thought that gnome-extensions was the way to install extensions manager (it turned out to be the actual user themes extension itself). I am wondering how to remove the user themes as a whole because it is not showing on the user-downloaded part of extensions manager, but it still shows as installed and I cannot remove it. (I use arch linux btw, yes overused statement)

Which Linux distro? *Sudo dnf....* Command is only for red hat / fedora users. If you are using Ubuntu try *sudo apt install "software-name"*

Wasn't aware how complicated it is to install themes or change settings in some distros, currently using Mint (click & done). The main Gnome obstacle IMHO nowadays is the lack of a clever, time saving, menu by default instead of throwing icons on the desktop with endless scrolling or even typing. Would be interested in a further Gnome video about menus and most efficient desktop theme & settings saving desktop space for applications but still having time, date and status icons on (auto hide is not that smart).
