Customs officer turned farmer's commendable efforts to save Taleigao fields

We fully support him because he and many like him in same age group are the last diehard farmers of Goa.The concrete jungle was forced on Taleigao famous for more than 40 crops. The ancient river of Taleigao, नागाळेची न्हय originating from sacred tank of Santeri Temple ,Nagali used to support more than 400 hectares of fertile silty sandy soil. This river was systematically destroyed by interfering with the channel upto Kamrabhat Tonca from where it became " estuariois de st ignes' in 1878 and St inez creek after liberation. Machado and the last generation of farmers ( also last families of ramponkars in nearby Caranzalem) are fighting a huge land mafia, juggernaut of urbanization and face threat to their livelihood and lives as for town planners, real estate developers such farming is waste of land. Every Goan must support him and every farmer in Taleigao assembly constituency and esp under vp Taleigao and communidades of Taleigao and Durgawadi

Rich piece of information Prof. Nandkumar. The story of the sacred नागाळेची न्हय and its role in supporting local agricultural practices is so powerful that it was beyond just a source of water. Growing up in Taleigao, I remember oral histories passed down about the 'Talganvchi Nhay' in local parlance and the socio-cultural and spiritual reverence 'Taleigaonkars' had with it, today reduced to a 'nullah', a stark reminder of how much we've lost in the name of development.

Respect to this farmer. The Agriculture Dept govt of Goa has to support this Goan farmer Mr. Ceasar Machado in all the ways like Financial support , Fencing his total agriculture areas etc. If govt do the fencing then there are hundreds of farmers will grow their fields. Right now the cattles are forcing farmers to abandon their fields hence the fields are left idle & messy.

Yes there has to be a policy set by the government that if the fields are not cultivated they have to be given to the farmer's to cultivate who don't have land ! It's a sin to own a field and not to cultivate it ! We need the policy asap !
