the trick in RBI is to rotate the compass but keep the AMBER ARROW in the same place. you need to get the deviation amount and turn the compass in RBI so that the same number will go to the top of the compass (instead of NORTH) when you finish turning the compass, you only need to check for the number you get and decide which number goes where, for example : on the first example he gives at 0:34 you can see the aircraft heading on GYRO is 315 degrees and so we get that 315 degree and turn the RBI compass in a way to make the 315 get to the top side and read the tail side of AMBER ARROW which makes 135 degrees and that goes to the right side of 90 degrees ( you must already know the usual placement of 90-180-270-360 degrees) and that would be number 4. I came here to remember the basics but thankfully this video didnot help me with the RBI section so i had to study from another source, if you have more questions feel free to contact me. Cheers!

​@@md.enamulhaque6180 It shows N above one, 1 will be north, 3 east, 5 south, 7 west, its a compass basically, its for the rbi direction, so for 2:20 its pointing north east, 2 is north east because of a compass up right corner, then the plane image points to right corner, dont overthink it

For anyone watching this video and confused about the keypad 1-8. 1. Plane direction will follow what you match on the RBI compass (pointing in the right direction) 2. But choosing the number will follow the yellow arrow pointing towards the control tower after the rotation (centre of the keypad).

Hopefully with my explanation things will be easier for you.😀 Trust me, once you understand the concept it's really simple! However, it is quite difficult to explain in a simple way.. (Probably also the reason why it is confusing for so many people, because it ultimately comes down to your thinking and spatial orientation skills.) With other words, you kind of have to learn and understand it yourself, just like classic IQ questions. Also use platforms where you can practice on this particular assessment. Really helps! 1.GYRO is the direction of the airplane. Additional information: The four cardinal directions are north (360 degrees), south (180 degrees), east (090 degrees) and west (270 degrees). 2. RBI (always relative to the north) is basically what decides which number (1-8) it is going to be. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Example question. - Let's say the GYRO has a heading of 360 degrees (north) and the RBI has exactly the same heading. * This means the aircraft-symbol has to be the one facing northbound. The number will then be 5 because it shows where the aircraft is in terms of the bearing towards the NDB. Tips! I advise you to use 2 pens (one blue pen and one yellow)! The blue pen is the GYRO and the yellow pen is the RBI. Move the blue pen to the RBI (always face northbound) and align the yellow pen with the direction of the RBI. Thereafter, rotate your blue pen to the original heading of the GYRO and MAINTAIN the heading of the RBI. By doing this you will always find the correct answer. When you have mastered this technique, you can try doing it mentally. It will become a lot easier then. Good luck with your assessment!

This is how I do it, Rotate the heading of the RBI so that the heading of the gyro aligns with the RBI DO NOT MOVE THE NEEDLE of the rbi, the needle stays at its position!!!!!! Now that you have twice the same "heading" at the top, you watch the TAIL of the needle and this indicates what quadrant you are in ( for example SW or N or E, ...). Then you just have to check your heading an boom you have your answer

Dude, if you transfer the arrow to the Gyro, the tail shows your position compared to the station like an rmi, and you just have to read the heading. takes 1 sec to do this

This is not correct! The purpose of the exercise is a visualisation task because the RBI needle tail only shows the correct aircraft position when the aircraft heading is at the 'top' of the instrument. An RMI automatically updates heading information in this way so is a much superior instrument.

I did this with ease, so you look where its pointing which is north, you take a compass, you know north is up, east left, south down, west left, then with the number pad, for rbi arrow you just march where the direction is pointing, i remember doing it with ease when i did it

Suggestion for the video would be to slow down the initial beginning example pictures before you give explanation. Would make a good test for students but you display and change them so fast you can’t stop the video before they are gone.

Think of the center square as a Control tower or airport and the yellow arrow will point towards that. And where the arrow is point is where the plane is at. And the Gyro show the direction

Plane is facing north, since the RBI is aligned with north you don't need any adjustment and just follow exactly what the RBI is showing.

Yess ‘ that’s would be easier ‘ just add up both heading ! Remember heading is just up to 360 degree ! If you add both values and get the ans exceed 360 , just minus that number from 360 and you get the result and see the Heading indicator for matching correct air craft shape
