Yup. I rather detangle and straighten my own hair. I only use to press my hair 1-3times a year. So im wearing my curls 97% of the time. But I wish I had help in styling it but I can’t pay someone $97-$120 to cause damage especially when I can teach myself how to do what I’m asking of my stylist. It’s the Trimming that catches up with me. I’m thinking of straightening it myself then going somewhere just for a trim.

Your a beautiful young lady. I want to encourage you to stop making excuses for a professional grown woman with alot of experience and expertise. She KNEW that you were young and inexperienced. Her actions were intentional and with knowledge. She just didn't care that she was breaking your hair. I was like you and didn't speak up even when I knew something wasn't right. Why? Because I didn't want to offend the offender or seem mean or unkind. Well I want to encourage you to utilize your voice even when you feel uncomfortable doing it. Eventually you will be comfortable speaking up for yourself. Trust your gut instinct and remove yourself from the situation. I cannot count how many times I physically removed a comb or blow dryer from the hand of a professional and walked the hell out of the salon.

You are sooo correct Michelle! She did NOT know what she was doing! And this sweetheart is really giving the stylist an easy exit! We have to definitely speak up when the stylist is doing something that isn’t to our liking. I’m a total pain in the ass with any stylist and when i don’t feel good I’m really bad! Bcse then i start directing! I’ve had enough bad experiences! This was really unfair to brittany! Smh… I’m sooo nervous deciding on who to trust my natural hair with, so i just use my rev air and call it a day!

@@relatablerealness973 You absolutely 💯 correct. Some of these "professionals" are complacent and too comfortable and if I'm paying for a service which is quite expensive nowadays, I have no qualms in speaking up. Also I do my own hair because it's extremely hard to find someone I can trust

You are so correct. Even at the schools , you get your hair done they are overseen by a teacher who is a professional stylist with many years under belt, with that said I had my hair done about eight years ago with students who over processed my hair caused my hair to fall out . I only had 6 of my 26 to 28 inch of hair left I was so mad. I started using this within 24 to 48 hr when I notice my hair started to fall out that what saved the remaining 6 inch of my hair if I waited any longer I might have had only 2 inches or less.

Ladies, ALWAYS - Deep condition your hair at home the night before - get a deep conditioner treatment + steaming (if available) at the salon before getting a press. - don't be scared to detangle your own hair if the hairstylist is overwhelmed with your hair - if you feel that the hairstylist is STRUGGLING a lot, leave!!!!

Omg as an African, American hair salons sound sooooo complex. Bookings, certain fees for trimming, conditioning etc. Anyways, this is so sad, that's why more and more women distrust salons and end up doing their own hair.

African hair salons have their own quirks too. Especially when you're under 15 years old. Some stylists never did my hair the way I asked them when I was 11-14 because they said I was too young to choose. My mom would allow me to pick my hairstyle but my stylist would do something similar but different in the name of being age-appropriate. I finally ditched my hair stylist for a new one at 14 and I never had to deal with that anymore

I wish us all good luck in reaching our hair length goals! And don’t despair there are good stylists out there, you can definitely find one! And I completely get it, even if your hair is long is still sucks to have several inches of it removed. I did go to a stylist a while back and honestly I can’t complain even though she cut of like 3-4 inches, I know it was all damaged and split. I’m just happy I can start new with out all of the split ends. And no worries your hair will grow back!!! You got this!

The whole time she complained how this my 4c hair is and how if she had hair this thick she’s just perm it. SMH it’s sad but we live in a world right now where hair stylist no longer feel like they need to put in the hard and that perfectly fine cause as long as I got two hands I’m good💕 Wishing you the best hun😘

This is exactly what happened to me,I had about 16-17 inches of hair and the stylist was exactly like yours. It took her 6 hours to wash, heat stretch and flat twist,it was very painful and she ended up cutting 6 to 7 inches of hair. She actually said that she was not used to my type of hair and that half of it was damaged the moment I said that I have been taking care of it myself. There was so much tension and pain on my scalp and a didn't look at it for a while. I took the style down within 24 hours and washed it. I could not even do a ponytail after the visit. The ends felt way rough than they did before the visit. I am so sorry about your experience that and encourage you to keep taking care of it as you have always done and it will grow back for sure. Mine is growing back after the ordeal in August last year.. sending virtual hugs🥰🥰

I could feel your pain while you were talking. Our hair is our crown, and when it's been messed with it affects us. I fully support your emotions, and that lady was wrong. I feel like she wasn't equipped to handle your hair in particular. Sometimes, hair stylist will "adjust" AKA cut your hair as a type of jealousy thing. Like you said, "Let's grow together." I'm sure there's a lesson in there somewhere. I just don't see it yet LOL.

Obviously she didn’t want to put in the work to do your hair 🤦🏽‍♀️ she should have detangled your hair in the washing process & she knew that .Don’t take accountability for her laziness sis.You can tell if hair is detangled the moment you look at the hair and touch it .I’m a cosmetologist and I know .That’s why I don’t do salons because they try to multitasked and rush and don’t pay attention .I would have went off! That’s so traumatizing , something similar happened to me but thank god I usually do my own hair, so I stopped the stylist & told her how to comb my hair, I had a little breakage because of the one tug she did before I stopped her ,NEVER AGAIN and I’m a stylist saying it 🤦🏽‍♀️I’m so sorry you went through that . 😩omg this stressed me out

I have always had the experience of black hairdressers being quick to cut my hair since I was a teenager. My hair always passed my bra strap, and the first question I would get was if I were Dominican because I had nice hair for my dark skin..Aside from being too quick to crop my hair, they would want to put a lot of product and heat in my hair. I had them roller set it every visit and finish the rest when I got home. I asked a friend of mine where she got her hair done, and she gave me the information for a Dominican hairdresser a block from where I lived. She was my hairdresser until I got married and relocated to Florida. I tried to visit her whenever I was back in NY.

I totally understand and sorry this happened to you! I have had to re-grow my hair plenty of times. We as women value length and our hair is our crown. I know your hair was pretty healthy as well. But I’ve seen you say you only trim every 4-6 months. And you haven’t pressed in over 3 years. The ends of our hair are the oldest of course and they thin and split. From the picture that you inserted, you can see where it needs to be cut. I also always detangle prior to going to the salon as an extra precaution. You had 2 months worth of shed hair and didn’t detangle. It’s 50/50 in this situation in regards to accountability. Maybe (definitely) she should have told you that she couldn’t continue with the service at that particular time. And please don’t get me wrong, I love your content and you definitely have my support. I’ve even made your hair butter for myself and my daughter. I just wanted to comment natural to natural (every journey is different & I learn each time I have to revamp my journey😭)

When I first saw your pick on IG I was like oh my goodness what happened. I could see the pain of the experience on your face. I live in NYC and I have been to black owned business for silk press and a”Dominican spot” and you can so tell the difference. My head was killing me after the spanish spot and I refused to let her cut it because I knew she would say my ends were jacked and they aren’t but they are for them”. Please don’t ward off using heat every once and awhile to check your length. Not everyone is the same. Try to find an actual natural hair care stylist. I know up north they treat hair very differently. My hair is a lot like yours super curly in the middle. I often tell people I am like a chia pet my hair grows when you wet it. My hair is currently about 4 fingers from my waist and it has taken me years to get it there. Keep your head up mama you got this

The first and last time i went to a hair salon. They pressed and baggered me to fat iron my hair....and to even do it for free after i said NO I ONLY WANT A WASH AND BLOW DRY. They kept begging and begging and trying to imtimidate me into giving in. My aunt was sitting out in the car waiting for me to get done, they even went outside to ask my aunt if it was ok to flat iron my hair after i told them no i didn't want it flat ironed MULTIPLE TIMES. They wanted to flat iron my hair just to see my "length". I swear BW with 4C hair, hair is ONLY considered beautiful and "good hair", when its past armpit length. Especially if you are a darkskinned BW with 4c hair, they will really try it.

Wowwwww! This is so unfortunate. I typically run from the best price but I live in Chicago, so I understand you thinking it was a good price for a smaller town/area. That makes sense to me, it’s just messed up! But you do still have a lot of hair and I’m sure it’ll grow back pretty fast. It’s so important to really vet these beauticians. I went to this one new lady after my regular beautician canceled on me last minute…. I literally hated the way the lady detangled my hair and I was so scared that my hair was damaged. I went to 2 other beauticians just to make sure my hair wasn’t broken off, thank God they both confirmed it wasn’t damaged at all. It’s hard to trust new beauticians, that’s typically not a risk I’m willing to take anymore. I just wait for my beautician to make space for me now!!

I have 25+ inch long hair. I HATE all of the excuses. Many stylist just are aggressive almost as if they are mad to have to detangle it. My hair is not course but it will matte very quickly. I had one person wash my hair that was so gentle detangling and REALLY cleansed my hair. He quit. The next person barely washed it and I had to ask for the comb to detangle my own hair. I don't tolerate pain. I will not go to a salon again until I can find one that uses a RevAir because that yanking with a regular dryer is dead to me.

Omggggg Britt!! I LITERALLY had a similar experience This past October!!!! The hairdresser literally butchered my hair and set me back at least 2 years!!!! She gave me layers that I never asked for, my hair is completely uneven and I so badly DONT wanna cut my hair to even it out! After that experience I get so upset every time it’s wash day bcuz I have layers on my left side & my right side is longer than my left! Completely disgusted and wanted to cry soooooooo bad!!!!

New subbie here im so sorry that, that happend to you . i have a similar hair horror story . but i had heat damage ! 1st time going to a hair stylist in 15 plus years 1st time ever since being natural . and neverrr again . i use miracle drops saved my life i swear by them . i feel your pain i couldn't look at my hair wash day was a breeze ! Smh and it sounds good but you know natural hair in reality takes some timeee . so i had to cut pieces the front was like a fro . a mess i still have to do a video on it . but its a shame that this happens too often. I feel your pain its not just hair lol i did a trim /cut on here and damn near passed out so i know lol it will grow back true. Ill be following the journey and i want to join the journey -moemoe

Never go to a stylist with your hair tangled. Your stylist didn’t properly prepare you for the appointment. You need a consultation and you need to communicate with each other before the appointment and during the appointment.

I’m very tender headed!! I’m a stylist but I have been doing my own hair for a year now. It sounds like she wasn’t starting from your ends when she was detangling or blow drying. It was the product she used that caused your hair to tangle possibly too keep your hair curly

As a hairdresser this is definitely a lesson learned no matter how skilled you feel a hairdresser is you must be very clear about how much hair you’re willing to let go of and you never want to tell them just do whatever they think it needs unless it’s somebody you’ve been to before, and you know you can trust them, because everybody has a different idea of what’s healthy hair means etc. Especially with very curly texture the hair can feel damaged/frizzy and telling someone to cut all the damage off could result in them cutting a lot of your hair. I don’t think she was prepared for how much hair you had, and did not detangle it properly during the shampoo which caused it to mat up and tangle more.

I’m sorry this happened to you, but God will give it back to you x2! I’ve had many bad experiences with going to hair salons. After losing all my hair to stress alopecia, and regrowing it to more than 12”, I truly don’t trust anyone hands in my head! I’ve had people tell me I should get a silk press n I’ll look good with a silk press. My response is always, I look good now…you’ve never seen me with a silk press so how u know how I’ll look.

This week I had a client like this. She had not had a trim in a very long time so her ends kept tangling up. It was like I had to detangle the same section 5 times even after a deep conditioning treatment. It took 4 hours and she was very very tender headaches. Even trying to flat iron on 390 degrees the comb wouldn't go through her ends 🤦🏾‍♀️ We finally got through it and she took accountability for allowing her hair to get that bad of condition. Although she told me to cut whatever needed to be cut, I didn't. I've been in the hair industry for a long time and what I feel as a professional that needed to be cut I knew it would upset her. I had a conversation with her to do this gradually over the next few months so that it's not a devastating experience.

Once you learn to do your own hair, anyone else doing it will be a fail. YOU know your hair best and your hair is loyal only to YOU. They tangled up your hair when they washed it. Also, they may have used products that your hair didn't like. I recently had a bad salon visit and understand your pain. It will be many years before I visit a salon again.

In the white cape photo, you had 3-4 inches of broken hair in a U-shape. The left side showcases the knots the stylist was mentioning, which made the experience painful. To be fair, all of that needed to go immediately. At the very least, I'm glad the stylist showed you. But you gotta up the frequency of your trims so that you don't have to deal with a traumatic cut like that again. I had the same experience ❤

Glad we all learned! Skipping trims + not washing and treating the hair for 2 months and coming to a stylist un-detangled with wig glue on your edges will definitely have you in the salon for hours.. It's not always the stylist's fault all the time.

You are amazing! Trust me we all know the feeling. Lowkey I really just go to Dominican places or Spanish salons and they actually know how to deal with our type of hair. I'm not sure where you went but I always try to be optimistic and them boom (hair fail) so I do the same like you are doing (I shake it off and try again after a few years). I never had a silk press. I always got a blowout but even with a Brazilian blowout it's never guaranteed they will do it correctly. I love watching your videos and we will all be here to watch your hair journey. Side note I been natural for 9 years now and I definitely cut inches(3-4) 🥲 over the years 🤣😂

Wow!If I am correct, the cut happen in 2021 and I as a new comer am just seeing the video. Circumstances appear from your very detailed explanation about the visit to the stylist, is she did not, know her business. I saw tbe anguish in your eyes, a d heard the pain in your voice. The situations to many of us and thats many, many, clie nts dont let stylist cut their hair. People say, "But you still have a lot of hair, are naive, ( and I am being nice because they dont understand). I am so sorry you had to experience this situation. I hope you cried, to release your pain and realize thats a good thing. But you are child of the most high. You will overcome. Try to research stylist by visiting their salons and asking can you watch them cut hair. Tell them yku are searching for style but you are not sure what you want. And dont display your natural hair.

It doesn't even look like she gave you a good cut. I've had 2 hairdressers cut my hair and never again both times they were talking on the phone and they cut one side so much shorter than the other and then one tried to say it was like that when I came in but that was not the truth. When I was trying to tell one of the ladies that I prefer she not talk on the phone when she was doing my hair she would even let me say anything and just ignored me. I just learned to do my own hair. I just don't trust Beauticians anymore I know all of them are not bad but I've never really ever had one to do my hair right they would break it off and the only time my hair grows is when I keep doing it myself.

We ALL have a story like this or several. If you MUST get a cut, flat iron it yourself then go to supercuts or to the Asian salon. When you tell them to cut off 1/4, 1/2 or 1 inch that's ALL they will cut.

I did this before. did my hair and straightened it pin straight. Went to the Ethiopians at Supercut and even after telling her how much to cut she said she knew better for what my hair needed and took like 5 inches smh. Then had the nerve to say "it will grow back by next year"

😳😳😳 a detangling fee!!! Omg hell no, that’s the first time I ever heard of a damn detangling fee these damn stylist are WILD!!! Omggggg I’m so sorry for your experience! I have waist long hair also, it is a different texture but I still never been to someone who even have all them damn add on fees! 😩😩😩. 6 hours!!!!!!!!!!!! I pay $100 for the whole sha-bang ( 2hrs- shampoo, deep conditioning, blow out, straighten one pass only, then trim). My stylist also recorded thee entire process of all her clients for her own content. I appreciated that too. I’m so mad at this stylist she obviously had no experience with your hair type and should of just said that!

She cut like 7' off your hair. I had an experience where I went to a salon to get my one length bob cut refreshed and the stylist shaved the side of my head. TO THE SCALP!! I know that she did it on purpose because she couldn't even look me in the eye when she was done.

Happened to me twice!! The second time AFTER I cut it down, grew it out AGAIN, and TOLD her all of the above, she burned it. All of this is after I grew it back after having chemo from breast cancer. That burnt smell is also the worse. Just Tragic.

Some people’s hair is naturally THICK from root to TIP . Most likely your hair was extremely “tangled” tbh . Sounds like she didn’t properly blow dry your hair correctly or take her time when it came to your ends .
