It's really "quick and easy" when you have a easy background and it's already pre-selected.
@IRedpunk3 жыл бұрын
Aye it’s far more easier with a plain background, but with an actual background it’s far more complex
@ricardourroz93226 жыл бұрын
I agree with one comment below. Doing a cut out from an almost pure white background it´s one of the easiest thing to do, and more with that deep black hair. Bad example, sorry.
@jetzee66546 жыл бұрын
agree
@correiodozac5 жыл бұрын
And it's not fast. For white background select and mask or refine edge is much faster.
@franslam73985 жыл бұрын
You need to type in specifics for that kind of tutorial. Specifically videos that target cutting out hair from busy backgrounds.
@HilarioBacar5 жыл бұрын
Bad Example.. i agree
@MarkBailey19725 жыл бұрын
I think he just wanted to give the basis of how to do it. Using a busy background for this tutorial would require a lot of detailed instructions that wouldn't work well with a tutorial. I used his method with a image that had a busy background busy background and just added on what I already knew and it worked out fine. Some of the things he mentioned I would have never thought of trying before.
@deejbyrd5 жыл бұрын
I've been using Photoshop for close to 20 years and never bothered how to properly cut out hair, because I never really needed it like I did til today. You just made today's project at work possible for me and in a timely manner to boot! To the complainers that say it's a bad example because it's dark hair on white background --- the same concepts are going to apply, you just might have to take extra steps in masking certain areas or additional work to get your contrast right. Besides, a good cutout means starting with the right photo and not all photos are going to work well. That's just life. Pick one that works.
@babulaas7 жыл бұрын
Easy with a white background. The work is already 90% done if you have a white background. The cut out will be peanuts then. But this is a good tutorial to explain some basic stuff
@HeartSoulLeake5 жыл бұрын
We think that this was more about refining the the mask to offer a resolution to the problem of those fine hairs that basic masking dose not easily fix. But, we have seen several great way to skin a cat. This just happens to be one of them.

It's 2021, and about to roll over into 2022. This is THE BEST hair cutout tutorial on KZbin. Not convoluted, clear directions and not to talky. THANK YOU!
@stevenskadal5 жыл бұрын
This is exactly what I needed. I work with a lot of stock photos like this and was having a difficult time getting the perfect masking on hair. And ignore the negative comments below. You showing how to use channels for masking just gives the designer another tool to use to achieve that perfect selection. Thanks for the tip!

I've seen many vids that use this masking method, but what you did by adding a new layer which samples from below and using clone stamp to cover the "halo" was brilliant. Thanks!
@Hyperdriveuk4 жыл бұрын
These tutorial troll me pretty hard. I've yet to see one where the background is NOT a solid colour. Solid colour BG's are relatively easy. I want to see what people do for more complex back grounds.

Great tutorial. For other viewers, this is just one method, called Channel Pulling and Dansky did a great job of demonstrating Channel Pulling. It can be used for other types of cutouts other then hair. You will still need to learn the various selection methods depending on the situation. Such as, use the pen tool (pro method) for cutting out the body or quick selection tool (hobbyist method).

I've been trying to learn a technique for this forever, have tried many tutorials that never worked. THIS one worked! thank you! The only thing I'm finding is my background, instead of being white/clear, has a grey tone to it, which gets darker the lower down on the photo you go. I can't figure out how to remove that so I have a clear/transparent background (I'm very novice).
