No, we haven't. We might have to fertilize in the near future, and we'll make sure to mention it then. We usually get about 160 square bales per hectare.

Hi from Klein Karoo. How much water do you give your lucern? And how often? How do you keep weeds out?

Hi Peter, it varies during the season. In the heat of the summer we need to water every 2nd week, when it's cooler we do every 3rd week or so. We use surface irrigation with a solar pump that gives around 40000 l/h. If you do calculations based on our surface area, its about 3-4 inches every watering. If we plant from March to May we get very little weed problems, however the lucerne eventually overtake the weeds anyway. Usually our first and second cut may have more weeds in but after that we get clean lucerne throughout the season. A nice dense stand will have very little room for weeds👍

@@SVtgr8 yes it is, hopefully next week we can start leveling some more fields, then we're planting more lucerne before winter. In Sutherland we try to plant before 15 June, so you're still good to go if you want to plant!
