I missed out on this knife because I wasn’t sold on it 100%. By the time I decided to get it, it was out of stock. I’m starting to think I missed out for a good reason. That steel dulls way too quick.

I just ordered one of these. I’ll know to use it for regular, everyday slicing, and not heavy work. I do wish that they had the Civivi construction with a better steel option. I like that This has the stop pin for the lock, and the placement of the pocket clip, but Nitro V seems to be lowering the knife’s potential. Thanks for this test, Dood!

Yeah it’s a perfectly fine knife for EDC, just will require a little more upkeep

The nightshade is now available in nitro v at white mountain knives. It would be interesting to see how that one would do. I’m waiting on one in Elmax but would get the nitro v if it tested better than that one.

I also have a work sharp precision sharpener and i cant seem to make a perfect edge. You should make a tutorial or some tips about sharpening on it.

Well that’s the wonderful thing about knives, something for everyone. I personally love my Vision FG but I’m also one of the weirdos that loves the We Vision R with that ridiculous rear end pocket clip and all. It really is a case by case basis for a lot of people. So far my edge is doing well on my Vision and I’ve carried it for about 2 weeks but just doing normal everyday stuff. It’s possible they put a bad batch of Nitro V on there. Either way I enjoy it as a fidgety and comfortable knife to use but I can definitely understand why it’s not going to be everybody’s cup of tea. I mean there are people out there that hate the Pyrite and the TRM Atom so I’m sure a boat load of people with hate the Visions as well.

I have a Civivi Conspirator in Nitro-V. In my experience it's on par with 14c28n, AUS10A, and lower-end 154CM as far as edge retention goes. It does take a ridiculously sticky edge tho.

Well, not exactly. My conclusion is based upon comparing different knives in different steels by BESS testing them before and after performing common EDC tasks, like breaking down cardboard. Budget steels like Nitro-V and 14c28n will generally lose about 80-100g on the BESS tester after breaking down several boxes, having started out in the 90-110g range. Well treated wear resistant steels typically lose around half that amount. But yeah, I have not done wear testing to point of actual dullness, which is where the better steels really shine. And I don't have a Rockwell tester, so I do have to rely on the manufacturers' published ranges. @@tacticalcenter8658

What angle did you put on it? I've resharpen mine at a 15° angle (also with the WS pro) because the factory edge was so-so. It looks better for now, I'll see over time. Thanks for your video!

I simply screwed the clip from the Böker Magnum blue Jay onto the Civivi Vision fg. Visually, in terms of feel and in everyday life, it fits perfectly. 😅🤷‍♂️👍

I agree with u. This knife isnt doing for me either. And this was the one budget knife I had to have. For me its the G10 handles with that god awful C on the pivot. Wish they would do more decorative style than that C. Also the knife seems heavy for g10 with speed holes. I Also think there should be a cut out for access to thumbstuds would help with ergos as well as deployment. Aluminum handles would have been 100% killer.

You should check out Peter Kohler. He makes a lot of his knives with Nitro V steel. His knives are massive and beautiful. I think he won Forged in fire once.

14C seems to have better edge retention

@@doodysdaggersthen it’s probably the heat treat/ burnt edge. 14c and Nitro V are very similar compositions so the performance when done right should be near identical.

This steel draws out very thin, but I suspect it rolls over on the micro level. This is why it skates on paper edge after wearing. But with soft stuff like veggies I think it will be very slicy. Honestly, u should incorporate tomatoes into your testing. Perhaps it's supposed to be an excellent kitchen folder.

Yep, I wanted it until Doody did his thang! For the money there's a million other knives I'd rather have. Wish they had used 154 or 14c. I thought Nitro V was a great steel but I haven't seen enough to know for sure.

Idk - Got my FG and i love it - bought it because of the designe. I carry Benchmade and swap between models most of the time but i'm happy with the FG and the Nitro is O.k. I use if for outdoor cooking or cutting some feathersticks but i kept using it for about a month at work - were we have to get rid of a lot of boxes and paper and it kept a good edge for about 2 weeks of 'heavy box cutting'. (did some stropping every now and then). Always depends on what you like and wanna do... I don't follow many 'Knife Tubers' so idk if there was a 'hype' but the first time i saw it, i had to have it because i just the designe very much. Didn't care if its D2, Nitro, 154cm or whatever

I wanted to love my Vision FG. Turns out I only really like it. My issue isn't even with the steel. I bought it for the fidget factor, and the action just isn't smooth enough for me. Find myself fidgeting with my Kizers instead. Kizer has the best action smoothness per dollar spent on the market. I refuse to listen to other opinions on this matter.

I own some Chinese knifes so I’m not a completely anti Chinese knife guy but Civivi just doesn’t do it for me. They are definitely good budget knives but not for me personally

Smell? Naw. I love the designe - When i saw that FG the first time i had to buy it. Looks better than the 'WE' Version. But it's not an 'EDC' I'm gonna keep in my pocket - I switch between Benchmade models and i fe.l in love with the 'Knafs Co Lander 2'. Perfect and fun Knives for my 'daily tasks'. The FG is still a fun and fidget friendly knife and i still keep it in my 'hiking/outdoor backpack' for cooking and making feathersticks. Oh and i had no problem with the edge and i did some 'heavy box cutting' at work for 2 weeks. Some cleaning and stropping kept the edge 'good enough'.. Idk - even my benchmade's S30V needs good care after 2 weeks of cutting boxes... so idk what you people expect or want from a knife.

I run 440c on a variety of popular knives and with good HT the 440c performs better than NitroV. My freaking daily GANZO runs better than this. A kitchen knife runs better than this.

Doody, Metal complex said this knife was an awesome low priced EDC… but you actually gave it a semi hard test and it was just ….Ehhh!!… I’d love to own a knife with a scorpion or that type lock, but the AD 20.5 is expensive and I’d rather spend my money on a knife with S35VN , LC200N or k390 then nitro v which is a cheaper form of AEB-L / 14C28N. I also think if it were in 14C28N it be a top tier figit knife!
