We do not use spanish words in Brazil. Both languages are originated from Latin, that's why they sound similar. There are words in French and Italian that sound similar to Portuguese aswell.

yasmine mixon Not true. Brazil and most (not all) other countries do not use Spanish words.Spanish, Brazilian, French and Italian are all Latin, which is a dead language used by Ancient Rome. The relationship between Latin and the other four that came from it is considered to be like “a mother to children.” This means that while those four languages sound the same, it doesn’t mean they used each others specific words, but they all recycled the words from Latin and had minor changes as to become apart of their own language. Saying Brazil actually uses Spanish words is completely incorrect as they are two separate languages. They all use their own variation of words that come from Latin and therefore sound the same but are said and probably spelled differently. Should have Payed attention in world history and/or geography. If you’re still in school, then please do pay attention to what you should be learning.

Like 70% of Portuguese words are derivative from Spanish ones. Both languages come from the same region, that’s why most words in Spanish also exist in Portuguese with a small modification. But even though Spanish is older, they are very different languages. Especially Brazilian Portuguese because we really took the language and made it our own.

A lot of the time it is though. You grow up in the US youre gonna more than likely learn American English, you live in Sweden youre probably gonna learn Swedish, you live in France youre probably gonna learn French.

Usually when we say Chinese, we are talking about Mandarin and if it's Cantonese, we would literally just say Cantonese. 中文和粤语/广东话

Tagalog was the only language i knew when she said it, and she was saying Kumusta ka na, not Como Estes like some people were thinking, but there is a lot of Spanish influence in Tagalog. i’m not fluent tho.
