The splits in some countries always make me a bit sad. It's really great though that this series isn't afraid to acknowledge and add those parts of history into the videos as well as the "frivolous" beauty part of it. I love this series! :) And to everyone who always comments, "this isn't correct," on nearly every video: No, not literally every single woman in each of these countries looked like this for a block of 10 years at a time. There are MANY styles for each decade; the producers just had to look over thousands of images of beauty icons, movie stars, models, celebrities, fashion icons, etc. to pick what they though would be the "best" look to represent that 10 year time slot. These weren't "what the average woman looked like;" it's all about what was considered beautiful in that time, whether women chose to look like it or not. I bet many of us don't look like/have the 2010s styles of our country, so why are we all getting upset over every other decade being generalized? :P

A few things to know about the Eastern 80s style: 1) Obviously, it's representation of a subculture. 2) Berlin fashion and German fashion are to this day very different. This is an example of Berlin fashion (that could also sometimes be found in other big cities). 3) Wearing something like this immediately made you suspicious to the socialist regime. 4) Because it was most often an expression of anti-government beliefs.

@@slavicdrunkard3895 I can only imagine, I live in this part of Germany now and it wasn't bad as they make it seem, it's just that any association with communism immediately means "poor" , "bad", "evil". What might have been more important is to represent that DDR allowed women to truly become part of the working force in comparison to West Germany. It wasn't as glamorous of a period, but many of people that did live in east Germany, miss the job security, housing, childcare and healthcare conditions that were there. They gained very little with the unification.

Tais Grim It was the last 10 years until the end of the cold war. Germany was pretty much the border between both powers and would have been the first country to be completely destroyed. Was a hard time back then, knowing that your fate is completely in the hand of Soviet and the USA. Not to mention, that the people in east Germany weren't allowed to go to west Germany and trying to flee into west Berlin could get you killed. (The guards were allowed to fire at everyone trying to get into west Berlin).

For the people asking what happened in the 80s in east Germany: If you live behind a wall with a crumbling economy and see that your relative neighbour has all the fancy shit you can't buy for a few decades you eventually get rebellious too

Certified Edgelord legit the east is way wealthier than the west. The west has to pay their solidarity fees to the east for no fucking good reason.

Leonard Feuerstein hä was hast du denn für Probleme?!
