as a hard of hearing person who has been in the Deaf community, has Deaf friends and attended school under a Deaf Studies major, I would just like to point out (as some D/deaf people who have responded to the thread have pointed out) that the top comment “Everybody be talking about the cute blonde, but the real legend is the guy who knows how to read lips and actually speak well” is actually, albeit unintentional, an audist statement “The blonde everybody talking about do be really cute, but I can’t help but also be impressed by the deaf individual who knows how to speak well” would have been a much better way to word it (deaf viewers, let me know if this statement is also not okay). The reason the first statement is considered audist is because many Deaf individuals are forced into learning to speak and lip read, despite sign language being the better option. Forcing speech and auditory learning can inhibit language acquisition in deaf children, whereas sign language does not. Additionally, there is a long history of Deaf children and people being discriminated against for signing and kids getting swatted on their hands with rulers for signing instead of talking. More class time would be spent on pronunciation of a word than actual learning content at times, even. In New York it used to be illegal to do anything other than fingerspelling (spelling out words letter by letter). American Sign Language is a staple of Deaf culture and it’s insulting to refer to a deaf person as a “legend” solely because speech classes worked out for them when it doesn’t necessarily work out for every deaf person, especially given the history behind the suppression of ASL. Would you like to know about a real Deaf legend and role model? Look up Nyle DiMarco.

I know that a fair amount of hearing people will change or alter their laughs, either consciously or not, to make them sound "better" or more socially acceptable or attractive. But, deaf people don't worry about that. They just laugh however they can and it's purely their laugh. Maybe people can sense that and that's why her laugh is so attractive.
