@@alexsanchez3635 They were asking because you should never take baby hedgies from the mother, they know them solely by scent and won't look after them if they don't recognise them. The fact that the person in the video is handling these babies means the mother rejected/discarded them - either ignored them or started acting aggressively towards them. And babies that are rejected unfortunately have a lower chance of surviving.

No, they are actually quite soft until they reach about 3 weeks of age. Thats when they start shedding their soft quills for hard ones, its called quilling.

Dont hold them without the mother. The mother may kill the one you held ( even when the mom is there ) so only pick it up for one min return it back and make sure its only one because if she does kill then its only one.

I'm not sure who you're replying to, Maniac, but monotremes are the ONLY mammals that hatch from eggs. Hedgehogs' resemblance to echidnas is a coincidence. They're not rodents either, if anyone was wondering. I think their family is called Erinaceidae, distantly related to moles... Anyhow, they definitely give live birth. ^^

Yeah, i had a hedgehog go into hibernation for like 30 minutes cuz he was next to a window in the winter, and for some reason, my parents had the air conditioner on. So when i woke up, i had to wake him up and make him eat/drink.

I did not actually know this until very last night but hedgehog babies are born with a protective membrane covering their quills, the membrane dries and shrinks in the hours following their birth, when they have been cleaned by their mommy their quills which sit beneath the skin pop out.

They are called quills, and they do not come out of birthing with them already grown. The quills begin to sprout within the hour AFTER birth. An adults quills are very hard and sharp when in defensive position. However, when the hedgehog is calm the quills will lay flat and it is akin to petting a hairbrush.
