Great draft and vid as always. Boros is becoming one of my favorite to draft nowadays when everyone tends to lean towards 4 color shenanigans. I guess you haven’t played with Bruse and steer clear much. Holy cow is also an ox and you have multiple games you could have won with double striking holy cows (especially on the game you’ve lost to overwhelming forces) and steer clear checks on casting, not on resolution. It will not matter if they killed your mount creature. Great vid nonetheless. Keep ‘em coming!

I think the game where you lost to overwhelming forces could have been ended before they cast it if we casted Bruse two turns earlier for double strike on the holy cow. I kept hoping Paul would see it because in an earlier match he does have both and the Cow did hit twice. GGS though and GL making it to Rank 1!

It was obvious that Paul did not realize that Holy Cow was an Ox. Even in the draft he could have taken one more of them but took just one cow "because it is good with the prairie dog". Did not even mentiin Bruse so I just waited for him seeing it gets double strike when playing Bruse but even that did not happen. But still we all know he is a much better player than all of us. Would you consider experimenting with 3 color decks? For example in this deck you drafted a lot of token makers (Boros mercenaries plus cow maker Bruce). The signpost uncommon in Orzov are all directly wanting to sunergize with Boros. Mardu seems like it is all about token creation and sacrifice, what are your thoughts on expanding into a Mardu deck from a two color deck?

Among top users on 17 lands... Nurturing Pixie: 59.3% GDWR, .1 IWD Stop Cold: 60.5% GDWR, 2.7 IWD Just because a narrow and mostly bad card matches up well against a lower end but playable card doesnt make the playable card bad. If Stop Cold was as bad as you make it out to be it would at the very least be decreasing people's win % when they draw it. There's plenty of data to show it doesn't do that at all levels of users. Granted, win %s for blue cards seem inflated on 17 lands, and deflated for white cards (probably because of boros? but im not entirely sure why) But the actual bad blue cards do have negative or close to 0 IWDs. The stats for it certainly aren't incredible but the fact that it's hard removal more often than that, and when it's not, usually tempo positive (but value negative) seems to be enough to make it a playable option in a format where removal is extremely important, so even worse removal spells perform okay, and blue otherwise doesn't have great options for removing things for good. Going to ride this horse until it's a creature type: skeleton.
@David-xb8hz3 ай бұрын
when it's bad, it's a blowout. those things not in your control are usually avoided.
@brianh58443 ай бұрын
@@David-xb8hz I mean, I think getaway glamer is the only real "blowout." Pretty much everything else you spend a card on. Pixie is a pretty rarely played card because it's mostly bad and very narrow, so it's not really a reason to not play it. Even in that situation, if they have pixie in their deck it's presumably because they have good ETBs, so they're getting back a creature instead of one of those. With a bounce spell, they're spending a card and not bouncing one of your creatures. With a sacrifice a creature effect, if they're playing it it's presumably because they have sac fodder and they get to keep a 1/1 instead or whatever. The flip side is that against graveyard recursion, it's actually better than "destroy a creature." Mourner's surprise, back for more, honest rutstein, badlands revival, lively dirge... these are all cards that are much more common to face than pixie or even bounce spells, and I think this is likely the main reason the stats aren't terrible for the card. When leaving the creature on the table is not a downside, it's either neutral or an upside. The best argument against stop cold is getaway glamer. That really can be a blowout. That said, while stop cold isn't a great card, you should still play it if you're lacking in removal options, because in this format, removing something with a small risk of them getting it back is certainly better than not removing it and having their bomb take over the game.
