I'm older now, and just recently lost my last little girl. She lived to be 21 which I am told is equivalent to 100 in human years. I had her since she was born and we got to know each other like those old married couples you hear about, where one always seems to know what the other one is thinking. But over the years of my life we were like our own little animal shelter. It seemed that critters in trouble or who needed some help, found their way to us, or us to them. We always seemed to have a house full of little critters ( and some not so little ) but we loved it. They were our family. We always found that critters who didn't have a home, or had been abandoned or abused were the best pets. It was like they really appreciated a good home where they were loved and taken care of. We had everything from rats, hamsters, chinchillas, ferrets, cats, little dogs, big dogs, a cockatiel, etc etc and we loved them all. As much as we showered them with love, care, and attention, we always felt that they gave us so much more than we gave them. Now, and often, I enjoy the many fond memories that they gave us, and if we had to do it all over again, the only thing we might change, would be to try to take in even more critters. When Malenki ( which means " little " in Ukrainian ), my last little girl passed away, it broke my heart. It was her time, and she didn't suffer. I was with her right to the end. It was not the first time that happened with one of our beloved little pets, but I guess, as she was the last one to go, it was particularly hard, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. I am not quite ready to get another pet yet, but when I am, I already know what I'll do. I'll go to our local animal shelter and adopt the oldest, most " unadoptable " cat they have, and I'll give them an awesome home for the rest of their life. And, when it's their time to go, I'll go and get another one and do the same thing, and so on. I have always been a big supporter of our local animal shelter, and when it's my time, I had already made arrangements that - if I have a cat at the time - they will come and get them, and give them a good home for the rest of their life. I have had this item in my estate planning for a long time, and I left the shelter plenty of money to do that, with lots left over to help other little critters that need help. None of us knows exactly how long we have left, but I can't think of any way that I would rather spend my however many last years, than doing that. Many people have causes that are close to their heart, and there are a lot of different ones, but that's mine.

My cat was born a month before me. When he first saw me, he tried to snuggle with me in my cot. Obviously, since I was a newborn, he wasn't allowed to as he would have smothered me. I was (and still am) his favourite human.

My 2nd cat was a big sweetie. He was mostly my cat in cuddling. I used to give him belly rubs on my belly. He did stayed in that position for over a hour or more. Even did followed me around the yard. He was my special friend. I first met him when he was a stray cat in late September 1981 when I was 11 years old. He did stuck around the backyard for a month and a half. Both of my parents decided to adopted the big sweetie in. He did got along with our 1st cat quickly. My mother did fell in loved with him for being a big sweetie. We had him for a little bit over 12 years.
