Without dung, the calf become terrified. An experienced keeper knows to always emulate the mother elephant by stuffing the little calf's face and trunk full of shit(dung), as smearing/caking dung all over the little calf's body multiple times as needed daily to keep it happy, and to shield it from the sun. Dung is vital for a little poopaphant's survival.

Unless you plan to rub/smear dung all over every orphaned calf's face and body to keep it happy, then don't complain. Dung is all that matters to a calf. If it were not for the team of vets and others, this baby would have likely perished. No abuse is going on. They do know what they are doing. A lot of you are talking/writing a lot of nonsense. I, The baby elephant was found alone, with a number of unexlainable wounds all over. 2, The mother nowhere to be found. May be killed by poachers, or succumbed by some accident. 3. The baby is already very traumatized by what ever has taken place before it was discovered. 4. Due to its previous traumatizing experience, it does not understand the people around him/her is trying to help.Of course he is not happy. 5. What ever you may think, the people around ARE actually trying their best to help him, but it will take time and patience, not done in 5 minutes. 6. They are trying to feed him milk. The video may not be your understanding of a happy baby rescue with a happy ending within the minutes of the video, but rest assured, the people will succeed, and the baby will by and by be a happy little elephant.

Willi Ingulf Ditlefsen Yes you are mostly correct. This is Sri Lankan people use their native language. This baby was found wondering alone in the woods when mother is no where to find. There are wild life protection people, vets and rescuers who are trying to calm the baby but he is of coz scared and try to call for help and scape. There is a elephant orphanage in Sri Lanka where loads of this kind will be raise and send back to the wild. I am sure that this little one also at good care by now.

I said while I was visiting a buddy in South Africa, a mother elephant and her little tiny one week old calf showed up on his property. His property has a lot of land. There were a number of us there so I have no idea who or what set the mother elephant off, but it nearly killed a close family member of his for no reason. He had to shoot and kill the elephant. Huge fucking thud when it eventually dropped. Her tiny calf ran off aimlessly, but returned near it's dead mother a minute later and started sniffing and rubbing it's trunk and face in her dung for some reason.

He/she is a rambunctious little one. He says "you are not keeping me here against my will, I'm making a jail break" as he tried to go over the rail. The workers seem to be very attentive to him. He was just rescued, he doesn't understand what is going on. Once he gets used to this environment and to know his workers, he will calm down and will be a happy little calf and grow up to be big and strong.

Poor little baby , so scared , so traumatized . He misses his mother and too young to have experienced so much trauma . This baby doesn't understand what and why this happened but it is much better off with the people or it would most likely be horribly killed by lions. It is so sad to see these little babies lose the security and love of the herd as well as the mother but thank God for people who care .

I agree. He / she is crying out. Very frightened. It needs comforting from another elephant not humans. For his mental & physical heath he needs to be with other elephants. This video ripped my heart to pieces. I wish I could scream at those humans to leave him alone and give him a elephant friend now!

This video ripped my heart to pieces. The baby is alone & frightened. He/ she is crying out for comfort from a fellow elephant not humans. The humans need to leave and put in another elephant. They are torturing the poor baby. He / she needs a friend to be with. I don't understand why they have not figured that out. It's mental & physical health are suffering.

It wasn’t ‘taken’ for anything, villagers found it wandering lost and alone and alerted the authorities. Once its stable, and if the mother or herd can’t be found, it’ll be taken to the Elephant Orphanage.

@@shamaliwije4872 no, of course. I was just meaning that, in other times and other places, when elephants were (are?) taken forcefully, that these are the emotions they might have experienced. And that behind every captive elephant which we see, however stately, majestic, beautifully adorned, lies this same scene of rage and terror. And the taming, on top of that. Thanks for all your amazing work, you bring the true nature of this animal to us all with your videos.

What a desparate struggle to break free and have nothing to do with humans, I feel extremely sorry for him, I wish there was a animal communicator to interact with the baby elephant and communicate with him. Time we humans should become wise.

Absolutely true. These kind of videos are so heartbreaking to watch. There should have been someone like Lek(of the Chaing Mai elephant sanctuary in Thailand) to mother the poor scared baby ele. What the baby is badly missing is a mom. These men are not able to soothe the baby.
