I've heard, that cats, and that includes big cats, sleep about 16 hours a day, These tigers are constantly disturbed by human visitors, and they don't get enough sleep. I would say this is gentle torture. Leave them alone, and let them do what they want.

It's not really true though that they sleep that much. I've heard 19 hours a day claimed as well. The real figure is more like 10 hours, maybe 12. A bit more than humans, but a far cry from 16 or 19. But any cat owner will confirm with you that they're up most of the day and much of the night as well, it's kind of hard to find a way to call that 16. I had one cat who was staying up way more than is healthy I'm sure, since I'm an insomniac and she would adoringly make sure to always be in the same room as me, and she'd keep me up at night too, so it's kind of hard to imagine she slept even as much as 8 hours a day, probably more like 6. So I think the real answer is that they are in fact very, very adaptable, more than humans, and can adjust to a wide variety of sleep amounts. Nonetheless the tiger exhibitionist things are cruel in other ways. They usually give very neglectful care of the tigers, they're just cash cows to them.

Letting tigers give birth in captivity is not okay. Although they are cute, these babies will grow up quickly and have miserable lives. Even in the best conditions, tigers have only a small fraction of the space that they would travel in the wild. Many are killed or sold for their parts as well. Also, when tigers are bred for circuses and fairs, they are forced into abusive situations. They are much more likely to get sick, and, not to mention, have been ripped from their mothers and forced into being fed cold mixture from bottles that can make them even more sick. Please spay and neuter. End their suffering.

To the genius who wants to release these kittens into the wild, they would not survive without a mother to teach them. The cubs are usually with the mother for two years before they are capable of self sufficiency. Assuming of course there is any wilderness left to release them into. And they would likely get shot or trapped and killed and sold for their body parts. They are very cute but the way they are treated by humans is the ugliest fate imaginable.

Not so adorable when you come to know they are being forcefully bred and separated from their mothers, kept awake all the time for such tourist attraction. They are not petting and photography toys that you're playing with. Really shameful.

What people seem to forget is that Tigers are an endangered species. I've been to that zoo back in 1984. It helps breed tigers and release them into the wild. Events like this pay for their work. Out of interest, I never had a full on 'play' with the cubs back then. Just a photo op feeding a bottle to a cub. Then outside I got a photo taken scratching a full grow tiger behind it's ears. I LOVE big cats. Just glad they had a good time. Also the money the zoo made goes straight back into protecting the species,
