Lee Peedin -- Excellent Video -- very creative. I totally agree with your use of a stepping motor. The number of indexing divisions become insignificant. Indexing plates etc.- become obsolete. This can totally change the dynamic's of indexing. I call this a " Game Changer " -- Jim

What a great project. I'm an old retired programmer also, and I like your approach. I need to get on the rasberry pi wagon. I still enjoy writing code when I get a chance.

Well done Lee, nice demo of using that stepper motor, and completely doable in a home shop. Enjoyed, cheers!

Nice job Lee. I believe there are charts or equations in Machinery’s Handbook for measuring over wires to precisely obtain correct tooth height/pitch diameter. I have a copy of a drawing for Hardinge-made gears that states the wire diameter and the measurement for correct tooth height. The drawing is dated 1949, obviously hand-drawn and beautiful.

Great project. I took your idea and put a stepper one my dividing head with a Raspberry pi and touch screen. My son programmed a gui interface and I provided the math settings. It works great. Thank you for the inspiration.

Great mod of the rotary table and cutting the gear, would you consider going over the electrical installation from the Pi to the stepper motor, also could you use an arduino. thanks in advance

A rotary table is perfectly capable of making gears, at least mine does using the dividing plates.
