I would like to see a close up of the wire saw with a description of which harder material is used and how it is integrated with the wire to cut the granite or basalt stone? It is about 7 on the Mohs-scale I guess. Also I would like to know about the actual speed at which the saw can be advanced through a given square unit at a hardness of 7 without breaking? - plus, how long time the wire saw can work continuously with the shown cooling without being worn down? Further, how wide is the cut relative to the diameter of the wire, and not least - how did you get rid of the last piece of stone that broke off due to the tension you applied from the top? Finally I would have liked to see you put a straight tool against the cut to show the flatness immediately after the cut. I am asking all these questions motivated by the ongoing discussion raised by the established scientists in history who claim that such cuts could be made in ancient time using cobber or bronze chisels.

Hello Stephan - GREAT saw! I have also built one. Is that a Hofmann hoist with the acme screws ? I often thought of the same idea. But I came across an old wire slurry saw and converted it to diamond wire. I use 'half' a Hofmann hoist for positioning the horizontal table. You can see the table here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/anbceJKbqpWXmM0 and the saw here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6K2g36Qe5ueaJo I've since converted mine to CNC, but haven't tried to cut under computer control yet. Always interested in talking with other saw builders! Thanks for sharing. Where are you located? I'm in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Wow! That is a very tidy machine you built there. Wonderful setup with one big flywheel on each side. That was what I was opting for at the start as well but I could not figure out how to get them done (now I know but it is too late). I really love to have a saw like this and it makes my life so much easier since it is working properly. And yes... you are right. This is a Hofmann hoist with acme screws.
@GregsStoneYard
@GregsStoneYard 6 жыл бұрын
What you did was exactly what I had thought about doing. It's why I had the hoist. Cool to see that you did the same thing and it's working well! I've replaced just about everything on my saw that it originally came with, including the large wheels. I got some 1550mm ones from China. If I were building from scratch I would go with smaller wheels, and use two either side. Anyway just wanted to say great job.

I like the ingenuity of the machine, however I was reading from an Egyptologist (I don't beleive it) the piramyds were built in 23 years by quarring a stone, shaping it transporting it, and placing it the finish block every 22 min. your single cut took 20 min with a mechanized machine? were the Egyptians ahead of us??

Always the same ever ending questions around pyramids! Have you only thought there was not only a man with his stone but ten thousands doing the same thing, also where is the problem if a block was made in a month but x 1000. And yes they have bored some hole with copper cylinders but using sand not diamonds. It's freaks me than the same persons don't think to the rushmore memorial : only 400 persons and only 14 years 😎

Look up 'sphere machine' on here, and also try Covington Engineering. I saw a cheap homemade set-up on here years ago.Now there are more! Try this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3iuZph8hMyCjdU these are for spheres, and will polish to a shiny finish. not sure yet how to get the ellipse geometry of an egg, those that information exists, and is not terribly hard to find I imagine.
