I have never seen anyone else use the piece of paper to set the Z height before. So quick and simple. And, thanks so much for the feeds and speeds; that's really going to help on an upcoming project.
@AdamTaylor3 жыл бұрын
I think the paper trick was popular when I first got the machine and was learning how to use it (on KZbin of course!). I agree it's a nice quick method when taking a full depth of cut, not ideal if you're actually machining something with important Z heights. Thanks so much for checking out my video, I'm glad you found some value in it!

touch of tool on carbon is easy since carbon is conductive. Just place one on the tool and the other aligator clip anywhere on carbon

I think that it would be beneficial to have a vacuum extension that will travel all the way down to the drill bit to really get all of the carbon fiber dust cleaned out

If you search PCB or corncob bits you will find them. I prefer straight carbide, they leave the best finish but I have tried many different kinds from expensive to the cheapest of cheap and they all cut fine 👍 Thanks for watching, let me know how you go!

@Adam Taylor A year and a bit down the road and its still a great video, but as someone who wants to cut carbon fibre, is this the right way of doing it in regards to carbon fibre dust or Would the machine be safer from dust inside a sealed acrylic unit? Also is the dust shield an OEM part or something you made please?
@AdamTaylor3 жыл бұрын
I've found using a dust extractor with the boot works well for me. Coolant will also keep the dust down but restricts the use of a dust collector and I don't find it as effective when releasing the parts. I also have a industrial air purifier in my shop that I run when cutting carbon or mdf to help with any dust in the air. The dust boot is something I've 3d printed from thingyverse 👍

Sir, why must cut in one pass ? Is it to avoid layer delamination and cracks ?
@AdamTaylor10 ай бұрын
It works great with a full depth pass with this style of cutter, no delamination or fraying. The most important part is work holding with carbon!

Is there a cheap cnc that will cut aluminum plate for rc parts?
@AdamTaylor3 жыл бұрын
The 6040 machine will cut alloy and I have seen smaller machines do it with some success too. Depending on your budget and your cutting requirements it's often better just to have someone cut parts for you. Alternatively, if you're determined to donor yourself, find a machine that suits your budget and see if anyone has managed to use it in the way you need 👍 Good luck, it's a lot of fun!

Nice. Which machine are you using please? Link?
@AdamTaylor3 жыл бұрын
This is a 6040 machine that I bought almost a decade ago and is pretty modified so there's not really anything I can link you. If you look up CNC6040 you will find what I started with, but from my experience be prepared for it to be a project. I've have seen people get great results with the Shapeoko and I believe these are a good quality machine out the box. Thanks for watching 👍

Thanks for your great reviews. Do you think it is possible to cut 4mm carbon fiber plates with the 3040? Thank you

I'd say this wouldn't be a problem, I have used a 700w spindle and 1mm doc in the past. Carbon is very easy to cut, let me know how you go!

CNC 6040. Is the Y range really 600 mm (23.622 inches) ? One KZbinr (Csongor Varga) said the Y travel is only 50 cm? Can anyone tell me the exact distance of the longest axis? "X,Y,Z Working Area 600(Y)*390(X)*120(Z)mm"

Can you cut carbon fiber with most desktop cnc? I was looking at one and was wanting to get the upgraded spindle at 300w but have no idea what is needed in machine specs to cut carbon fiber. I want to cut 4mm to 6mm sheets for drone frames
@AdamTaylor Жыл бұрын
In my experience you don't need a lot of power to cut carbon, I used to have a 700w spindle and that was fine with the same speeds and feeds used here. I think with your 300w spindle it would just be a matter of dialing in your speeds and feeds to suit. Give it a go, I'm sure you will figure it out!

What do you do when you have a 1 mm cutting line or you have to cut a perfect rectangle from the list and you can not have even R 0.5 mm radius on the corners???
@AdamTaylor3 жыл бұрын
Either design the part differently or use a different manufacturing method. Obviously there are limitations to very manufacturing process, I design all my router cut parts with a specific tool size in mind (depending on the material) and allow pockets and internal geometry to have some radius right from the start.

Is it possible to cut carbon fiber with a laser?

Don't think its possible to cut Carbon with a Co2 laser. I am able to engrave it with my 60w laser but definitely not enough power to cut.
