Your videos are extremely entertaining....I really enjoy them. I just found a local beekeeper in the next town over who is going to put 2 hives on my property so that I can learn how to care for them before I get my own. I was ready to order my hives this weekend and decided to go this way instead. He has several hives on his property like you do. I look forward to the next video showing how the trash can bees did with the move.

That's some good looking comb honey you got there. I get hungry for honey every time I watch people harvesting. Have to rustle up the left over dinner rolls toast & butter them up and then slather on some fresh honey. My uncle Tex got me started in beekeeping helping him during summer vacation on his ranch in Lubbock. He ran 500 hives back in the 70's and I'm still at it. We do mostly comb honey because that's what people seem to want in our market. Thanks for posting the vid.

hello I am a fairly new bee keeper and i have 9 hives. i purchased one hive as a nuc 4 or 5 months ago and it really took off, it grew very rapidly. now it seems to be decreasing in size quite rapidly. it is once again about the size of a nuc again, all the other hives around it seem to be doing fine. the queen is still there and i found eggs, larva, and brood but not much at all, i live in the houston texas area and not sure what to do, also the hive does have a lot of hive beetles and i dont know if that could be the problem. all other hives have the freeman SHB bottom board trap so not real a hive beetle problem with the others. i also added a jar of sugar water and they dont seem to be wanting it at all, I'm hoping you can give me some ideas on what might going on. thanks

Any hive I run across with a lot of hive beetles, I put several, say 4 ( hive beetle buster ) traps between the top bar. I really hate to guess but if I had to, I would question the queen. If she was a real good queen, I think you would know it. Sorry I can't help you more....tim sr

I want to have comb honey like yours. So I built a honey super and, on your advise, purchased pre-cut frames to assemble myself. The brood chamber is over 90% full. So I placed a shallow super on top, with no foundation and no queen excluder. It's been a week, but they don't seem interested in drawing comb up there yet. What makes going for comb honey different than normal?
@WallsBeeMan5 жыл бұрын
extracting honey is a lot different from going for comb honey. Work is work but it is different. Managing the bees is a lot different. You can not have any eggs laid in the comb honey at all. Commercial beekeepers that extract do not worry at all about eggs being laid in the honey supers. You don't make near the amount of honey when doing comb honey.
@Sheriff_K5 жыл бұрын
@@WallsBeeMan I heard you have to "crowd" them to make them not lay eggs in the honey supers (and that that increases risks of swarming?) How does one go about insuring that eggs aren't laid there?

So question. I dont bee keep or anything, but i might, but im curious, after you got it in the squares, can you just eat it like that? do you wrap the comb and what type of wrap, where do you get the boxes, what is approximate weight of a square of the honey?
@WallsBeeMan5 жыл бұрын
You must or need to use the shallow supers when going for comb honey as this is the size of the boxes. The clear plastic boxes are 4" square and all bee supply houses have them. We don't wrap the comb honey, we put the square in these boxes. The weight of each square will very depending on the thickness of the comb. General 13 to 16 ounces

I have a 2 year old hive, I went in it today and there were 10 to 15 empty queen cells, there is no brood no eggs no larva lots of bees, cant find a queen. what do you think is going on?
@WallsBeeMan6 жыл бұрын
Next time ask me for an easy answer. I first guess is, you have a virgin queen in the hive and in a week & a half when you go in again, you will see eggs. I don't like to guess but of course we have to guess what is the most likely answer. The next time you go in, look for two things. As you pull the frames apart, observe if bees are clinging from one frame to the next one like a bracelet. Also, see if many of the bees are fanning on the frames. Read the next part carefully. If you see the bracelet, there's a queen in the hive and if you see the fanning, no queen. Here's the part to really note. Just because you don't see either one, doesn't mean anything.
