Man I'm very glad I caught this vid when I did, was about to send one of my eps off to some high volume internet publisher and spend 40 bucks for a 12" at 33 for 12 mins of music lol, your suggestion to find more specialized cutters lead me to a much better option a couple states over! It's very cool to know that dub cutters are still operating all over the world in the 2020s

I always hoped certain dubplates, especially some of the early Happy Breakbeat stuff would get released now....but alas, not so! Ramos, Supreme & Sunset Regime's "Higher & Higher", the original dubplate version which is a fair bit different to the released version is a prime example....

Absolutely. There are a bunch of unreleased versions from Ramos/Sunset: - People's Party (the original mix without the piano breakdown) - KniteRaver (the darker original mix) - Higher & Higher (as you mention!) It's a shame Kniteforce haven't dug them out, as they are all great versions. They'd probably attract more interest than some of the JAL represses, which are pretty easy to get hold of.

I saw your mixer is a djm 450mk2, I know the pre amps on that thing arent the best, I'd like to hear the results on a better mixer!

When you did the comparison, I could only notice the difference with the sections that had drums. I actually preferred the sound of the dubplate rip if I'm honest! I've got a few vinyl dubplates cut from a few different places in the past, overall I didn't feel like it was worth it. I much prefer the sound, weight, and smell of acetate dubs. I think it sounds better than vinyl... but it is expensive

Acetate dubs are supposed to be slightly better in terms of audio quality than vinyl. I am guessing this is because the material is softer, so easier to cut. Most cutting houses use the same lathe for both vinyl and acetate, so the differences shouldn't be too dramatic mind you. (I wouldn't claim to be an expert on any of this!)

Any way i can tell if my white labels are Acetate or Vinyl? I am worried i am going to ruin a dubplate that I own, not knowing it is made of Acetate. (Buying dance music records from local record shops so it's mostly peoples old collections, including some cheeky gems)

​@@MrDBassett you'll be able to tell easily without even listening to them. Acetate dubplates are much heavier than vinyl records. You can lightly knock them or put them on a deck, and you'll hear a slight metal clang. If it looks and feels like a vinyl record, it probably is

Realistically, the differences between the two could also be the difference between needle/cartridge combinations. I recently put a goldring e3 on my deck and the rest of the frequencies were pretty much the same, but the upper mids and tops were much brighter. In a way, this closed the gap between old dubs i'd had cut, and the masters that they come from. Definitely couldnt put as much weight on the vinyl cut as an acetate though...but then the vinyl cut will sound cleaner for longer without frying bacon

@@klartbeat apperently what ive heard is too much high on a vinyl will make the needle skip. they both sound good i think theres not much difference in it. also im listening digital version which has gone from digital wav to vinyl then to mp3 again because its uplaoded to here great video

Nowadays you can get a vinyl dubplate cut, which are pretty resilient!
