Going out again next week again to cut more Aspen and fir in the white mountains of Arizona. Using my stihl 271 20 inch bar. 4 cords gets me through the Winters, we have a beast of wood stove and a K and W heat recirculating fireplace. Just installed a new Lenox 96 high efficiency furnace and AC unit. Our gas and electric bills are under $ 100.00 a month.

Thanks for the referral of boots! I'm not a fan of 6" boots and that (at least right now) seems to be the only boot that would fit me. as the men's sizes are simply too large. But, I'll keep an eye out for either a taller women's boot or at least a couple of different men's boots in a smaller size. Thanks Again!

I recently got a council tools splitting axe. I think it was around $70. 5lbs with a straight wood handle. I’ve been pretty happy with it so far. I prefer wood handles on all my tools. I don’t doubt fiberglass is tougher, just my preference.

I prefer a fiberglass handle that absorbs the impact better than wood that is just my opinion. They also last longer than wood.
@shakentosser
@shakentosser Жыл бұрын
Wood definitely absorbs impact better, thats the main reason people choose them over fiberglass. You wont see any fallers carrying around fiberglass handled axes. Difference between a metal bat and a wood bat is huge, if you ever played baseball

Good to see you out and about man. I need to get me some nice new hunting/hiking boots, everytime I invest in footwear there's always these little metal spikes on the bottom that make the boot useless for anything but cutting timber (or maybe staying upright on ice 😂)

I have asked you many questions over time because I appreciate your honesty. When I get a new saw I am not sure if I want it with a full wrap handle, or not. Why do you get your saw with an full wrap handle? What are the advantages and disadvantages of it? Thanks
@maddawgnoll
@maddawgnoll Жыл бұрын
If you're falling trees, get a full wrap. You'll also like it when limbing. Not having to worry about what side of the saw you're using and being able to flip the saw any direction is worth the wrap.
@mountainlifewithdavidkelsie
@mountainlifewithdavidkelsie Жыл бұрын
I prefer full wrap for timber falling and cutting firewood because you have something to hang on to on both sides… is it necessary? No it’s not big it makes cutting that much more pleasurable… I do like having a small half wrap saw just to carry in the truck for trees across the mountain roads when I am just driving around… if your are looking at using it a lot I would go with a full wrap…

Kelsie, what’s the axe that you’re swinging about 20:00 min into the vid? I’d like to know because I’m interested in the head. It’s looking like it’s one HECK of a splitter! Oh, and don’t worry about not putting out a vid every day. David, I’m also interested in the brand name of the head on your splitter that came out shortly afterwards.

Nice boots I have looked at Brunt before and they seem very reasonable. Nice load of wood you two, Kelsie you split better than all the boys at the Ranch. I tell them I know girls that split better than them, of course a lot of them are city boys, and they all say no way. I laugh show them a video and then they all are like she is cheating and I laugh some more and I say just watch she sets them up all looking for the crack and looking for the knots. I always harp on the boys about not just swinging the axe like a maniac you have to take a good hard look at every piece. Stay safe out there you two!

I'll never buy kenentrek boots again. I bought a pair a couple years ago... didn't last 6 months. Of course that was over a year because I only wore them hunting and summer time. I have different winter boots. I now wear whites hunting boots (can't remember the model off hand) a year straight everyday wear and they're still great shape. I like them so much I now have two pair. One insulated and one not.
@mountainlifewithdavidkelsie

You must of been kicking rocks all day long in them because I’ve had 3 pairs and lasted me 3 years each of almost every day wear and I put on a ton of miles in them in the mountains all year around… I buy the 400 gram mountain extremes and it don’t matter if it’s 100 degrees or -44 they keep my feet protected

@Mountain Life with David & Kelsie I'm extremely hard on my boots, so I've been told. I ended up blowing the side out at the sole. If I didn't wear them to work in, cutting wood, dragging brush, and that kinda hard on everything work, they're last longer, I'm sure. I've even had Redwings that didn't last me long. Was told they'd last years and within, I think, 8 months the leather ripped. But I was bucking tons of hay (my busiest day was 999 loaded, delivered, and stacked. Came back in the yard and picked up one baleand tossed it so u can say i moved 1000 bales at 120+lbs ea) and slinging tons of feed (30-40000 lbs a day) Wish my body would let me do that again. Not that I want to. I just wish I was able to, haha
