Alder is all I ever use for smoking my salmon and steelhead here on the Washington coast. I have a lot of Quinault native friends who use alder exclusively for smoking wild game and fish and when they do the traditional fish cooks around open fires. Gives off sweet smelling smoke and a good flavor to all kinds of meat!

When I saw the headline of your video I said I bet for smoking meat! I use it a ton. Alder way different over here than from the coast where I grew up. Alder on the coast actually ain't to bad to burn in wood stove. I sold a ton of it growing up in Port Angeles. Moved over here 32 years ago!

Good morning David. When ya said smoking salmon ya had my attention yes good stuff. Does the allder give the fish a stronger smokey taste. That is the way I like all smoked fish. My dad had a old refrigerator converted to a smoker man did it work well. We did brown trout Lake trout salmon what ever came out of Lake Michigan. Great memories. Thank you David for doin this stuff. It's fantastic. Be safe Love Wins.

I’ve cut alder on here before but it’s only for smoking meats

Its good for smoking if you use it green, its good for pizza ovens if its dried out, and it throws plenty of heat, and it cuts and splits like butter, so I'd say good choice

Alder is great for smoking meats, love that taste. Rub willow on you to repel mosquitos.

Probably will be able to smoke meat out in the open the way this summer is shaping up. Already getting a lot of smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Brush fires are now kicking off locally which is very early for the central cascades. Hope the woods don’t get shut down too early this season.

Our tribe has been doing controlled burns with a chopper…. They been torching off alot of land which is a good thing

I they they are doing areas we have bad fires and making fire breaks for potential fires
@brandong6242 Жыл бұрын
That’s great to hear. Glad that both gov and tribes are using prescribed burns to be proactive on this stuff. Do you find those areas to be good deer hunting a year after? We got some big burns from last Fall that I’m thinking about scouting and hunting this fall. Still pretty new to the sport though and learning each season.

poor vocal audio. Wood cuttin buddy of mine used to cut madrone cookies for smokin salmon & deer & elk. Old Timer Faller turned him onto madrone after that he never used any thing else. You have any madrone in your area.
@brandong6242 Жыл бұрын
There is no madrone where he cuts. I live not too far from where he is. Madrone is over on the pacific coast areas.
