The grass height cut is adjusted by lengthening or shortening the top link .A longer top link lifts the front of the mower and this allows more stubble to be left.Shorter top link will pull the front of the mower towards the ground and will allow the grass to be cut very short.Enjoyed the video and best wishes from the U.K.

I have a drum mower and I love it. I fint that cutting the grass low like that is excellent because it reduces the weeds in the field. The grass can handle such a low cut the weeds cannot. The quality of my hay has improved greatly.
@wildcatwilly Жыл бұрын
Yes we have never had any issue with grass dying. However there are a lot of foreign obstacles at the commercial property so we do not want them slinging toward the operator. Thank you so much for the insight it is very helpful.

You'll never regret buying your drum mower, they can cut any condition of grass you throw at it, and they're tougher than nails.

Thanks for ride. No crimping. Of the hay. Does the nutrients stay in the hay stem. Or you want evaporation to get rid of water. Making less turns saves time on cutting fields. Travel from center out. Travel to end to end field runs saves time I have been told. Work your curves out last in the end fence rows. Later.

How close is that cut. Looks like the grass would have a hard time rebounding for second and third cuts. I never mow lower than about 4 or 4 1/2 inches and even then if it's too hot and the rain is sparse my grass is slow to get back to cutting height. I've heard you can get spacers to attach to the bottom of the drums and that only allows the knives to get as close as the spacers regardless of terrain.
@leetime4544 жыл бұрын
I have 165 which is one size smaller. It does cut extremely close to the ground and spacers can be bought or made. That is the big disadvantage of it but it is really good for smaller operations. Can back up with on irregular shaped fields, extremely low maintenance, can go at any speed regardless of hay conditions. You do have to ted it and you will drive over some of your hay to spread it out before raking though.

Looks like it scalps the heck out of that grass. Also the tires on my tractor and baler are nearly 8 feet wide, are those windrows far enough apart to bale with a big tractor and a 605f baler
@milespostlethwaite11542 жыл бұрын
We cut with a drum mower. As you said it only makes a 6’ swath. You then need to row up 2 swaths or more to make a windrow for baling.

Is this drum mower still holding up? I'm looking to buy one, I've been looking at a few different makers, but the Tar River one looks appealing. Also, are there shims offered to raise that cut height up to 2-3"?
@wildcatwilly2 жыл бұрын
Yes the shims are supposed to raise the cut height... The Tar River is doing excellent however we have a growly bearing possibly from us washing it too hard... That being said if it blew up tomorrow I would order one immediately with no questions asked...

Buy one as soon as possible!!! This is the most bulletproof hey cutting systems I have ever seen. I accidentally ran right beside a concrete slab. Tripped the breakaway system as the mower set there for 30 seconds cutting into the concrete. I then shut everything down raised it up to inspect it believing I had just totaled the entire machine. Come to find out I just severely blunted the blades. Put the machine back down and continued to cut for the rest of the day with the blades dull. Until Charles brought me new blades of which I had installed in 15 minutes. If mine broken half tomorrow I would order a new one immediately.
@Griffin8544 жыл бұрын
thanks for sharing the video, definitely interested in drum mowers. What size tractor are you using in HP? And are you using wheel weights to keep the load even?
@wildcatwilly4 жыл бұрын
45 HP there are wheel weights but they are even on both rear wheels.
@dimetrekorsikov56434 жыл бұрын
113 hp case 1070 , absolute beast and at 11,000 plus pounds its not lacking in traction even without wheel weights, but I've got full rear row crop weighted rear wheels and I've never spun a tire but it's so powerful that it'll break shit that you'll never feel or hear until it's too late. Like if you cut too close, whatever you've got hooked up on that tractor is either gonna get ripped out of the three point, break in pieces, or tear through whatever you hit and that tractor just keeps right on never looses a step or bogs under load.
@dimetrekorsikov56434 жыл бұрын
Also, when your mowing, your mower bar is riding on top of ground so the tractor is going to ride evenly because neither side is carrying the weight of the mower more than the other side.
