My dad told me that if it was slowing down and not powering out, best to lift the equipment and get out of there. If it stops going forward, just get a pull before you make a mess. It worked well for the most part. Quite often running a breaking disc, I’d pull the pin and crank the tractor off to the side out of the hole, then tug the disc out with a big chain. If you bury the biggest set of wheels, it only gets worse from there.

Good advice! Even with a truck, you can tell pretty much right away if aren't gonna make it out. But plenty of guys think 10 min of spinning tires and throwing mud everywhere is eventually gonna get them out.

I once berried my 4 Wheel Drive 1962 Scout so deep on a logging road in the mountains that I couldn't even open the doors. In the PNW, on the coast, back in the 70's we got close to 100 inches of rain a year. The ground never really dried out, only got a crust on it. Hit that spot at about 20 mph, broke through the crust and sunk, never stopped so fast in my life. Took a D4 to get it out. You just never know with mud. Sorry for the trip down memory lane, but watching you fighting that stuck dozer brought back that memory. Good memories though. Thanks for sharing.

Forgive the ignorance, I'm not in the business. Why is it, sometimes on building a road you use the skid steer, other times a dozer to push gravel, and rarely a grader? As long as the road is, I would've thought you'd use a grader? Can you maybe do a video explaining why and when or what you use each piece of equipment for and why? For example, I've known guys that dig basements with a mini dozer, and skid steer as opposed to an excavator, grading a long road with say a dozer or skid steer as opposed to using a grader.... Help us desk jockies understand a little more of your world, and perhaps how to get into your world operating equipment. Thanks, enjoy the videos.
@sandy1653
@sandy1653 Жыл бұрын
The grader is for cutting and finishing in, not really for spreading and grading bulk materials. Also depends on who's job it is. The grader belongs to his uncle if I remember right, and I don't know that he's mentioned what kind of arrangement they have for equipment sharing. If they even have one.

@@sandy1653 I haven't seen John using any of Chris Guins equipment or vice versa. I'd guess Betty wouldn't have had the same issue going through there. I was wondering why they didn't place a 24 in. x 20 ft. Corrugated HDPE Culvert Pipe in there even if temporarily because they are going to have to at some point anyway?
@fragglepoop7185
@fragglepoop7185 Жыл бұрын
Skid steer way faster than a dozer , dozer heavier and can push more weight . Grader for finishing , a grader would just get stuck trying to spread as the blade is in the middle not at the front 🤷‍♀️
@snowblowerman5115
@snowblowerman5115 Жыл бұрын
Grader can only be used for one job as a skid steer or dozer can be used for many. Doesn't make sense to haul a grader out to finish grade a road you'd haft to spread with a dozer or skid steer anyway

It's just you're wise enough to know when to accept that you're stuck and still put it on video. Hopefully someone else learns from this and some are smart enough to know that this isn't that difficult of a situation to find one's self in. I of course am beyond very impressed. And any wise ass "genius" operators out there should take a very humble lesson from the master. Obviously 😂are stupid people who think that they know better. I'd just be stuck. CHRIS!!
