In this video I show you how you can cut open your tail lights to mod, paint or clean them!!! It’s been a long journey with the m5 so it is fun to be able to do the small things that bring her just that much more beauty!

I own an E60 and BMW was ahead of its time with these tail lights. They're still my favorite and look as modern as anything else out there.

That ultrasonic cutter works so incredibly well against Hella's permaseal (very tough to remove)

If you were to get a face lifted E60 (the 2008-2010 style), you are pretty limited on headlights and tail lights when it comes to aftermarket support but if you’re careful and crafty at the same time, you can achieve the custom look on your 2008-2010 E60 and for me, I want to customize my headlights and taillights later on down the future

Looks cool, carefully opened the lights. But there are 2 dubious points in my opinion, the first one had to be chemically removed from the chrome, soaking the inside of the lantern in chemistry overnight and then painting it. Secondly, it was probably worth assembling the lanterns not on double-sided tape, but on some kind of sealant, it will be more reliable and there will be no fogging, but here sealing will not work well. Anyway, well done, thanks for the helpful video.

That was awesome mate. Just 1 question. How strong is the double sided tape that you used to stick back the lense cover? Will it stick for long term?

Use 3M extreme 30 lbs tape

Doing the same on my Saab. Did you use gloss or flat black?
@Unintendedacceleration3 жыл бұрын
First I used satin but I did it again and went flat. Looked a lot cleaner in my opinion

wow i have to do this. what did you use to reseal it? and was it the same process with your headlights?
@Unintendedacceleration3 жыл бұрын
Basically the same process but a little easier to reseal in the headlights as once they are ion you can’t see where you re-sealed. The taillights only get hidden in one spot where the trunk closes.

What was it that you used to reseal the lights? Do you have any links or info? Got to do this on my e60!!!

I used 3m double sided tape (red lined one) and the used black flex seal to seal. Maybe not the best sealant but it’s what I had, kinda messy you have to work with it quickly but it’s for roof patches so it’s good stuff.

I’ve been building my 496 for my 70 corvette. The m5 has been sitting for about a year sadly.
