I was absolutely stoked to ramp up my rock-cutting game, so I snagged a killer deal on a used tile saw from FB Marketplace - just $175! My old saw was practically a toy compared to the mighty rocks I regularly unearth, so this upgrade was long overdue.
The performance of this beast is seriously impressive, and the price tag? Well, it's a total steal, especially when you consider the crazy cost of a lapidary saw of this caliber.
Now, here's the scoop: the water drip system needs a teensy bit of TLC, but no sweat - the saw's overall condition is primo, and it's bound to kick even more rock-cutting butt once I get my hands on a shiny new blade.
I'm happy to share this video with you, and I can't wait to dive into some rock-cutting adventures in the future.

I think I speak for all the viewer of this channel when I say, we need to see more of these cows in your videos! 😀 My first saw was a Ridgid tile saw and it really is good. I liked the sliding table. I always thought about making it a gravity saw. Add some kind of clamp to the table to hold the rock in place and then attach a cord attached to the tray with a weight hanging off the back so the tray now pulls the rock into the saw and you pretty much have an auto feed saw. You picked some excellent material to test out your new saw! That rainbow obsidian is extremely cool looking to see rocking in the light.

Wow Andrew! That is a really nice saw and a nice upgrade from what you did have! That's awesome! And the obsidian is just gorgeous! I love the rainbow obsidian the best! It is so much prettier than the fire. Fire can only be seen if you work it right and rainbow is just in your face color if it's in the sun and cut at the right angle! And those are some amazingly bright colored pieces! Wow! Just so beautiful! And that saw handled those other cuts really well! And that will be awesome if you find iris in your agate! That's awesome! Fingers crossed for you! And that bowenite was just amazing! It's just gorgeous! Thanks for showing us your new saw! It's fabulous! And showing us your gorgeous rainbow! ❤🎉❤Thanks Andrew!

That new Rigid saw is really working good. I used an old rigid pipe cutting and threading machine for years. Excellent machines. I like the sliding tray feature. Really cool pieces to try out. Ive always been skeptic to cut obsidian. I guess I'm afraid of glass shards. But, you made it look easy. Maybe I will just try one day soon. That rainbow is gorgeous, bro! Thanks for sharing the excellent video.

Nice sheen going on there. My daughter and I have been to Davis Creek a couple of times, and this year, we are headed up to Glass buttes then over to succor creek and graveyard point. Weve bever been to those places and are looking forward to it. She got sick last year and had to turn around at Burns. No big deal. We have this year, now. The algorithm led me here so I subbed. Looking forward to watching more of your vids. Thanks for posting!

@TheRogueRockhound yep. It includes the gold sheen, rainbow, fire, and others. I hope to find some fire but I won't be disappointed if I don't. I've read it's a tough find. It'll still be an adventure.

i found fire going through glass buttes as a literal first-time rockhound, there are sometimes small piles of leftovers from knapping on campgrounds and that's where i found my fire obsidian. there are bigger piles too, just entire heaps of shards, and i found a lot of really solid, picturesque midnight lace. there's a spot near a pond where obsidian is just washed up on the shores. it's next to a claim but i met a man whose friend was the owner of the claim and he reassured me that picking up leftover bits outside was okay. gonna make the fire into necklaces for my boyfriend and i.

That rainbow obsidian is very pretty stuff. How is it to cut? Does it chip easy? Do you have to cut on a specific angle?
@TheRogueRockhound
@TheRogueRockhound 6 ай бұрын
Thanks! Yes, you do cut at a specific angle. What you do is find the "grain" and then cut w/ the grain at a 5-15 degree angle depending on how much of a [single] color you want to display. Sharper angle = exposing more layers. Weaker angle = expose more of a single layer.

As a tile installler for over 30 plus years it always makes me cringe to see rockhounds use tile saws as rock saws. The freak accidents I have seen! They are not made for rocks and using them as a rock saw is super dangerous, epecially the way you are using it. The saw should have two spray nozzles on either side of the blade to wet the cutting part of the blad on both sides at once.The old blades paint wore off the non-cutting part of the blade from rocks or bricks rubbing on it, Very common even when used properly, fix the two nozzles so you can keep both hands securely on the rock without the hose in the way. Also if the rock is not flat to the tray you risk having the rock jam or back spin causing injury. These blades are not sharp in the conventional way, but if your hand or finger slips under that blade it can get mangled between the blade and the tray. And it is even more messed up way to lose a finger than a clean cut from a regular saw. A ton of other things can go wrong - safety wise. At least you are wearing gloves, googles and mask. Anyway, I'd be careful about posting videos using or recommending tile saws as rocks saws, may open yourself to someone less carefull getting injured and sueing you for showing them how to improperly use a tile saw. You know how people are these days. LoL. Save up. buy a real rock saw. Use the tile saw for little cuts like you would with a rock trim saw. Otherwise, love your videos! You have some awesome content.
