I could be wrong, but most of those are age group-specific records. He has a strong claim on being the strongest man at one point (though it was not cut-and-dry), though he was likely one of, if not the, strongest _teenagers_ who has ever lived. By the time he had been into wresting for a little while though, him being the strongest man was extremely arguable. Part of the problem is that there's no one metric that defines this. He won the "World's Strongest Man Competition", but that was the name of the comp, not an official agreed-upon title. This isn't to take away from what he's done, but it was absolutely also a gimmick. He was sold as the world's strongest man )ong after he objectively wasn't, and (especially in his earlier career) he often did these strongman acts - bending pans, lifting cars,etc. Even if it was true, they still definitely made it a gimmick

For sure, but Henry does have the highest combined total of squat, bench, deadlift, snatch, and clean and jerk ever which is a good claim to the strongest man in history
@patricknoll81
@patricknoll81 Жыл бұрын
@@sethticer5108 I have never heard that specific stat before. If it's true, it's impressive, but I have a lot of questions. Are you saying that he did all of those lifts in one comp, like a powerlifting total? Or that all of his lifetime PRs add up to be bigger than anyone else's combined PRs. If it is the first, I haven't personally seen a comp combine powerlifts and Olympic lifts like that before. If it is the second, I would really have to question how they accumulated that and assessed it against others. Regardless, no one can take the records he has away from him. He just stands among many other giants of strength who probably have greater claims to the title of strongest ever.
@sethticer5108
@sethticer5108 Жыл бұрын
@@patricknoll81 Those are taken from any single lift performed within an official powerlifting or weightlifting competition. So any officially lifted bench, squat, deadlift, snatch and clean and jerk combined for a super total. The greatest strongman ever is definitely Zydrunas Savickas so I’m not disputing that, but to be so strong at all those lifts is very rare

@@Ak-de5yv Facts. He never placed in a worlds strongest man competition. He won the Arnolds strongman classic the first year and Zydrunas Savickus won it 6 years in a row before he had that streak broken. Henry was most well known as a "tested" strongman athlete. He doesn't own any single lift records but did own the WDFPF (World Drug-Free Powerlifting Federation) records for squat and deadlift for years.

Mark Henry is the most versatile strength athlete that has ever existed in history. He was an elite Olympic weightlifter, elite powerlifter, and elite strongman. That’s 3 completely different strength sports that he dominated. There’s literally only one other person that even dominated 2 of these strength sports, the legendary Zydrunas Savickas. The clean and jerk and snatch are as completely different from the bench, deadlift and squat as possible. It’s like being able to be world champion at the 100 meter dash and also world champion marathon runner.
