CW POTA with the MTR 3B at US-5221

Today we're back at US-5221 Oakley Corners State forest for another CW Parks On The Air activation. I figured I'd use my MTR-3B since it's been a while since I took it out. I used my little backpack kit that I carry with me. Everything you need to do an activation is included in the kit. 40m was pretty good today, and the activation went smoothly. I've got an MTR-4b and every time I get back home I'm like "Man, I just love that radio". I had trouble with the keyer. You and someone else suggested the BaMaTech TP-III and I tried that, but it didn't help (it's awesomely awesome and gets regular use with other rigs),. Then I tried a single lever paddle and that solved it. I bought a CW Morse off of QRZ. I always thought they looked like toys but boy was I wrong. I love that paddle, and with the MTR it's heavenly. My whole kit is just so compact and enjoyable to use. Why don't you have more subscribers?

Thanks for watching! Yeah, the 4B is a better radio overall than the 3B is with the exception of size. I have a single lever CW Morse key also, and I agree that it's a really nice key to send on. As for subscribers.......well......I don't think there are that many people who really want to watch me sit in the woods and make beeps come out of a speaker for an hour 😂

@@EvanK2EJT I can think of one student ;) that keeps coming back to QRP QSO's and equipment review recordings and continue to enjoy and find encouragement from them. I am sure there are many others that enjoy them too. Even if I have to slow to 1/2 speed to get anything out of them. Need a study break, tune in to a YT QSO and K2EJT has many of them.

@@KN7U The table is a Big Agnes Woodchuck table. They're not cheap, but they're worth every penny. The chair is from Klymit. There are LOTS of similar camp chairs on the market, and any of them will do. Thanks for watching!

Don't know how fast your going but I can kind of sorta follow the QSO letters if I slow it to 1/2 speed. I would have to try to write is down to follow a QSO. Writing QSO's while listening is a whole another skill to doI find. Using LICW. I do like the MTR-3B and have hopes. I want learn CW to the point I deserve to own a QPR radio.

That's 23wpm. LNR will be launching a new MTR-3B this fall/winter. Keep your eyes peeled for it.

The worry now is that is will be more than $250. If so, I may very much most likely end up with a Venus SW-3B.

@@EvanK2EJT Considering the price of the MTR-4B, I would never have expected that. Guess we will have find out if/when price is announced later in August 24. If so, It WILL be the Venus SW-3B for me, although I worry about having to but that one from outside a supplier as too expensive to ship back if there are problems, I have no skills or equipment for self repair. I am going to wait and see and not jump too soon though. I need patience, I only get one chance to choose the correct one.

@@PaulK7VIQ I've used the crap out of my SW-3B with no problems. I don't know anyone who's ever had an issue with one either. I wouldn't be too concerned about that personally.

It's a little rip stop nylon stuff sack with a velcro closure at the top, and a loop of paracord sewn in. I fill it with rocks. Makes for a very light setup. I'm going to make some out of 1000D Cordura I think so they're even tougher
