Don't matter if you keep shells or rid of them still have what you call ballistics. Grooves/twist in the barrel puts a distinctive cut/markings on the projectiles that are traceable/matching. Not to mention the firing pin indentions/markings. So keeping the shell casing will prolly slow up the investigation but if the ballistics/projectiles aren't found at crime scene then you may be lucky but I doubt it. Them forensic people got some shii for ya if you don't know what you doing
