@ Gerri Petress, Such big words from a man whose GGG Grandfather served in an army that lost 350,000 men stiff in Southern Dust. Yes Lee surrendered, but the Southern Army lost 250,000...a full 100,000 less than the Northern army. If body count were to have been used to decide the victor, as was done by the US in Vietnam, the South were overwhelmingly the winners. The winners were losers if you count the bodies of the dead. Long Live The South!

The songs that are sung in memory keeps the memories of those people who suffered and died for what they believed in. Keeps the realization of what happened alive for future knowledge. These songs are precious and heartfelt. Even to those who are gone. This is beautiful. Rip to those that fought, and died and the families that suffered their loss. Rebel Soldier is a song that many now feel distant from, or, want to distance from. Eric Andersens change of lyrics made it easier to touch[ coal miners] . But the original theme is very close. No one should forget the terrible loss this country feels or felt , or think they can mend it ." Preserve the union" , was important to the Lincoln followers and now we see it was an important step today. England was ready to step in then. They tried in 1775 and 1812, But we will always wonder if or how, it could have been settled with out so much blood shed , loss of pride and culture right here in congress. Right then , Killing each other is a difficult topic to rationalize.. especially over economics. People white and black, worked as share croppers. Yes after the war, they could leave and move out , in theory , but not in a practical situation. In many places nothing has changed. Life is as it was in medieval times; the poor versus wealthy , regardless of color . Although it can not be denied that those in power help their own brothers first . jivetw

We never got out from under British rule. One reason that the South lost is England betrayed them. England took its revenge against the revolution by urging the South to secede then abandoning them to their own resources. The South thought that Britain was their ally and needed their cotton. Britain was growing cotton in India. They had no intentions of ever helping the South against the Union. This was their revenge against the Revolution.
@melaniepittman11853 жыл бұрын
Why would anyone, essentially a Southerner, Christian, soilder or anyone not understand this, and distance themselves from it?
@pintoffanta2510 Жыл бұрын
@@jackiehannigan2500 Incorrect. The British government was originally going to help the south but because of the south having slavery, the general public was outraged on the thought of Britain allying with them so Britain remained neutral. Many Brits volunteered for the north because of their stance on slavery and some volunteered for the south because they saw the south was being invaded or they had family their etc. Many confederate ships were English ships such as CSS Alabama.
