Every game company is the ship of Theseus. They are never the same; they constantly evolve. The more time passes, the more the only familiar thing that remains is the company's name. Even if all developers remain the same throughout the years, those would not be the same developers when the company just started or when a specific game was produced. Just like companies, humans change. Such is the nature of life. Company name is always for marketing purposes. It suggests familiarity. You are right to point out that everyone from the original Bioware has being replaced. Yet, even if they were to come together, the original Bioware would not have being restored. Such is life, the most beautiful and fleeting phenomenon in the Universe!

Things like the real bad game Super Replays that I miss very much? Gameinformer is a complete shell of its former self now sadly, feels like they are barely hanging on. There's just no need for game magazines that will have weeks or even months old info in them anymore. I think Kyle Hilliard is the only one left at Gameinformer that I would consider to have been part of the classic Replay crew. Kinda weird to think Dan is a streamer now.

I wonder if you could design a combat system that took this concept from this game of having full body control and went for a turn based approach. You and the opponent move simultaneously and it's up to the player to anticipate what kind of attacks will be coming based on the way that the opponent is posed at the end of the turn (so you'd have variations for standing and crouching and wind ups for each limb, as well as stunned states, so you would pick the action that best fits what you expect them to do. The depth would come from feinting where you or the opponent can bluff the next move to bait out a chosen response and then hit with a perfect counter, such as prepping a sweeping kick, but as they jump to avoid it you do an anti air instead for extra damage) I'd say that you could input a stance change or movement, plus one combat action per round (with feints being a full action but rewarding a successful bluff by giving you the next round unopposed for a free hit and a potential combo.)

Figured Giant Bomb would come up, surprised there was a whole detour. As someone who’s kept up with them, I’ll actually go to bat for the current line up. Not saying it’s the same as the old days, but it’s a different flavor of similar highs.

@casanovafunkenstein50903 ай бұрын
I'm not accusing you of anything, but when your criticisms of Giant Bomb's change of personnel is accompanied exclusively by footage that focuses on cast members who aren't men it doesn't look great. I haven't seen any of the stuff with those people and I respect that you can have a negative opinion on someone without it being rooted in prejudices, but when it's placed in juxtaposition with a period of really high quality output where all of the presenters are male it comes across in a way that resembles the kind of reactionary narratives about diversity hiring that create hostility towards certain people being visible in these sorts of roles. I feel like there may have been an opportunity to call out the corporate influence on who gets hired, encouraging the hiring of people who are 'good for the brand' over the earlier period where it was more focused on getting people who had done good work elsewhere to sign up in a more targeted fashion. The latter has its own issues, because if the industry is mostly made up of a certain demographic of people any hires within that pool are going to fit that existing mold and people outside of that dominant social group who don't already have success will be denied an opportunity to develop in a space where they generally aren't represented. I believe that there could have been a middle ground where people from outside the circle of traditional games media and revolving door of aspiring TV personalities could have been approached based on the merits of their own independent work with less focus on whether said person was going to be compliant with the owners' plan to maintain a cohesive and non controversial brand identity that would play well with the big game publishers. The issue is very clearly not diversity, it's that business interests are causing Giant Bomb to repeat the same profit driven decisions that led to its creation in the first place.

@casanovafunkenstein50903 ай бұрын
@@lorecow88 are you accusing me of that when I made a point to say that I don't believe that women shouldn't be subject to criticism on an individual level? I was just suggesting that a bit of additional context about the business side of things, or some different editing decisions, would have dispelled any sense that the negative things he was saying about the newer content from Giant Bomb had something to do with there being more women in visible positions. I'm not even making any accusations. I don't think that it's fair to infer that from a brief part of the video with only a few different bits of footage, especially when it's incidental to the actual subject of the video and to go into more detail could have killed the pacing. I just feel like it could have been made clearer that the root cause of the issue is more to do with the decisions being made behind the scenes than it is the inevitable result of women being allowed to give their opinions on videogames. There are far too many people who fail to make that distinction.
@three_seashells3 ай бұрын
Idk if it counts for anything, but I'm a woman and I didn't notice the clip as singling out gender or anything. Sometimes women are just annoying. But, your comment is very fair and logical and I agree with mostly everything that you said. As someone who knows absolutely nothing about Giant Bomb, I guess when I see an individual shoehorned in to talk about something they're not knowledgeable on or genuinely passionate about, I just automatically take it as a granted fact that someone at marketing or at the corporate level has demanded they be there.
@themeangene3 ай бұрын
Corporate culture, forced diversity and cringe far left politics are all baked together. I for one am grateful Boulder is mocking modern day gaming politics. We need more creators to call out people like this. You can't distill away one aspect. I especially appreciate he doesn't make this the subject of his videos. It's treated as a self evident side tangent. Nobody opposes diversity arising from legitimate merit. That's so clearly not what's happening. Mercante openly mocks people for being part of the original gaming demos - straight young men. She deserves no sympathy for being the bigot she claims to oppose. It's truly sad these activists made our hobby more toxic than ever. I look forward to the day these grifters are finally laid off so we can go back to marketing quality or innovative games over ESG scores. Boulder has previously recognized female innovators in the gaming community who arose during the 90s so I think anyone who is a fan of his knows he's coming from a good place.
