Cyber Scammers with bases in Southeast Asia are ramping up their operations. The chief of Interpol was in Singapore. He said the cyber scam gangs are stealing up to $3 Trillion every year. The amount is more than the GDP of most countries. Cyber scams like pig butchering have been rising since the pandemic-era lockdowns. Cyber scammers convince people to put their life savings into cryptocurrencies and then proceed to steal it all. But the people scamming others are often victims of human trafficking. The UN says over 120,000 have been enslaved by the cyber scam gangs. They are often lured into cyber scam centres and then forced to scam others. The governments of Southeast Asian countries need to crack down on cyber scam gangs.
