First time watching your channel, but I believe you've said about 'delay' is true to any effect. It's hard to explain to someone who never tried effects or never used them in a live situation. the 'effect' for the effect, is useless, unless it adds something to what you're already playing (intention), then, there's taste and purpose, tact and situation awareness. ps sorry for my bad English! Take care, I'll watch the rest now!

The sound of delay length jumping about is the sound of joy! A do want to give a vote to controlling repeats with the expression pedal though, it's cool to add a fadeout with some controlled oscillation at the end of a phrase or song :)

Yes, I’ve been getting some great sounds, by assigning different parameters to an expression pedal with a Raster 2, and I can do those Rubberneck effects, or just use it for a cool way to get this movement on solos, after changing modulation rate and depth up. So many things to do with it, and I’ve been focusing on uasssvle things for gigging, after I spent a month just doing film score type stuff.

So I just commented this on another video but I play reggae/dub, and what we do is run the delay into itself to the point where you can’t tell what the original sound is. It also gets real nice and overdriven and if you add a filter in it gets real interesting.

a cool thing you can do is match the last echo with a chord that would form a complex chord together, forming a 13th chord or something.

Having fun with rhythmic delays is actually like playing with a metronome as the slightest time mistake will send you off. I learned how to keep time indefinitely with my boss dsd3 in the 90s and now my 8 year old daughter is doing the same. I have about 20 delays and she still chose the dsd3.

A lot of this is what electronic musicians have been using for years. Glad guitar players have discovered it! One of my fave ways is to split the signal into 2 or more, and have a 100% delay on various drive pedals to get a stereo pan and time shifted signal path that sounds like multiple players rather than just one person with a delay. You need a small mixer for this, and one that will go back to a stereo amp or use a reamp box or Helix etc.

Very nice! It's amazing how far the 'echo' effect has come since I got my first Echoplex back in the late 1970's. Even then that was on its way out. If I remember correctly, the Electro-Harmonix Memory Man came along. I had one and it changed my life as a guitarist and musician. I used it for more than just guitar.

I don’t personally do number 1 for actual songs - I’ll play around with it but I always feel derivative or like I’m trolling. I do use it for a purpose but I like delay being more backgroundy. Especially with modulation (low and slow though for me) - it can really add that perfect sumn sumn to a section. Vibrato on the benson is top notch As soon as you mentioned the expression pedal I thought of the Supro. Good stuff. That was my fave lil tune as well.

this is a legit way to go, it's like turning delay into reverb
@RosssRoyce
@RosssRoyce 4 ай бұрын
@@CyberattackWorld it’s using it for a similar purpose as a reverb but it’s not turning it, for this reason: I use it to create this very nostalgic special ambience of my childhood - I used to go to some quarters where friends were living in squares of block buildings. There when we sang or screamed was this very special delay echo, it has its own atmosphere that reverb couldn’t recreate. Reverb smudges it… I really cannot see how a reverb can do the magic of gradually “rusting” and dying in the distance analogue delay repetition..

I like using mine for weird shit. For example, set to mid/fast tempo, short repeat, but with the volume almost at parity volume, similar to the first audio example. I tend to pair that with heavy distortion and octave down, sometimes add reverb. Mixing between stacatto and more flowy styles gives drastically different sounds. It can sound like youve got 2 entirely different fx chains just from changing the feel

pro tip, do also do the little bit of echo, especially with a fairly short delay at around 300ms cause it creates a cool loose double tracked effect, as if you've double tracked the guitars but kind of bad and it's really cool david gilmour does it on money live 1974 wembly, cause on the original it's double tracked, and kind of sloppily, but it works and really sounds like 2 distinct guitars playing the same thing, but live he uses the delay to get a similar effect he also does it on echoes live in pompeii after he does his solo, but this time it is kind of in time and rhythmic where it goes (and bar with me) DAAAA DAdaDAAAA DA DA DA DA DAAAA DAdaDAAAA the lowercase is the delay and the capital is the actual note and throughout most of the song it isn't used rhythmically like this, it's just adding echo (not subtle, but not rhythmic) that's how to use delay like a pro in your solos

I made the mistake of using it as an ambient echo. 🤔 Its not wrong - but it becomes a part of your tone, not a thing you use creatively. 🤔 My mistake lately was placing it AFTER my distortion/Odrive/fuzz - the clarity and volume sensitivity suffers if its distored first in the chain. Hmm.

nah it doesn't need to always be rhythmically important, I use 300 ms delay instead of reverb cause it does a similar thing but sounds cooler. sometimes with the right song that's at the right tempo it certainly does something rhythmic, but not usually, and I'm not really fussed I do try to get the delay at the right time for the song, there is a certain feel for getting the delay at a similar-ish tempo for the song, but there is room for error when you're using it subtly for your solos similar to how david gilmour might use it even if you do get the time right for the bpm, it will actually be worse for your solos cause you won't notice the delay as much, you'll have the delay quieter that your guitar to not muddy it up, so therefore you'll block out the sound of the delay as you'll most likely be playing a note every time the delay hits, or close to it, and the effect won't be as noticeable, or can sometimes mess you up, so it's good to have a delay that just creates a doubling effect that isn't rhythmic to make your guitars sound bigger in a way reverb can't
