Forgot a (potential) step. You may have to enable virtualization for the CPU in BIOS if it's not enabled already.

No, you don't. This is not turning an old operating system into a virtualized OS. This is booting natively from the old operating system. So you don't need virtualization enabled in the bios. However that's typically on by default.

@CyberCPU Partially true. What I'm talking about is turning on the Hyper-V feature @14:42 step in your instructions will require virtualization to be enabled in BIOS.

Is it possible to boot an operating system and run it from an external drive ? I'm thinking multiple hard drives with different operating systems, like Windows on one, Linux on another, and swapping them from a toaster like dock as desired ?

If you are using a laptop then most laptops have an option where you can enable Legacy Boot in Bios and that would allow you to boot an MBR partition, you will just have to boot from the boot menu

hey! for one your tutorial for the windows xp visuals were very helpful! but two, i was wondering if there was a way to make your pc look like the windows xp horror edition virus? i really like customizing my pc and figured this would be a neat one to be able to use at any time, plus i really love the taskbar and start button :3

Recovery partition at virtual GPT disk is movable in Minitool Partition Wizard program. I don't like EaseUS program.

Since you excell so well and so much with these Windows tricks and, lately with the virtual drives have you ever thought of dual booting a primary Windows parition and a virtual drive with a kindred Linux OS - Android OS - so that you can have the options of choosing of booting from Windows or Android OS, Bliss OS that is! Now, Bliss OS is very usefull for those that not only having the posibility of dual boot for the sake of being able to run any Android applications but specifically those applications that necessarily don't have an equivalent of them in Windows, such as: surveillance cameras, different apps fotr speciffic devices that we all know that are made to be installed and run on as much portables as it can be, phones and tablets, that is! So, what do you say will you cope with this challenge?!

I love this concept but was wondering about Windows XP. That would be the ultimate setup I would want. I have alot of Windows XP games that wont run on modern Windows. Even with Compatibility mode. For example the old CSI games.In any case very interesting and great video as always. Thank you

I use to set up dual boots alot, until i just built a rig powerful enough to handle virtualization full steam. Relive 2002 Windows XP... Today! Lol..

you could use Virtualbox on Home and it will Resize the drive with out windows Pro. But i Would just buy a pro CD key and upgrade your system.

Maybe this is a silly question, but doesn't virtual disk take up as much space on your drive as a seperate partition would?

No. It only takes up as much used space as the virtual disc uses. If you have a dynamically expanding disc then it doesn't take up the free space on the image.

Either one will take up EXACTLY the amount of space you tell it to.

Got a question. Little complicated but dont know how to resolve. Install a newer version of windows on a laptop. It wasnt able to get all files i needed. Had some drivers that were not available or compatable. Any way to get into the system back up which i didnt delete. So i could pull the drivers from the system restore files. Been trying to find some way to do that but havent been able to find any video or info as to if it is even possible.

Some backup programs allow for converting the image file to a vhd. I was able to do that with my Windows 10 install before upgrading to win11. I used Acronis, but there are onthers that should work. I have not tried restoring a backup directly to a VHD, but that might also be an option.

In my testing for this video I tried imaging a vhd to another vhd and it failed. The file system on the destination VHD was corrupted and I tried multiple attempts with multiple different programs.

Hey Rich. Do the VIP-SCDKey Windows 10 Pro license keys work on a Windows 11 Home system to upgrade to Pro or am I missing something?

You cannot upgrade 11 into 10, you would have to wipe the old system, or possibly do a side to side fresh install of 10 pro, then try to upgrade that into 11 pro.

@@johnniequinn3215Going back from Windows 11 to Windows 10 is called "downgrade" and generally speaking reverting from something newer to something older it's always called "downgrade"!😅

@@vla2uv I an aware of downgrading, but I thought that usually meant wiping the newer version 11 and replacing it with Windows 10. Otherwise you are leaving system files from 11 in place.

Windows activation will get triggered when you boot the system due to the hardware change.

Maybe. It depends. Your main operating system is activated and as long as it's the same edition then it should reactivate the previous OS on new hardware using the new license.
