Wondering if others are seeing an extremely difficult job market for IT folks? I've interviewed but no job offers. Weird stuff, like employer canceling interview 2-days before it's scheduled. My suggestion - If given a list of potential interview dates, chose first couple! I have over 20 years experience, Cysa+, Sec+ and several other certs, all are valid. Crazy times!

I think we are seeing a silent collapse of HR’s/PM’s/recruiters collective ability to wrap their heads around the job requirements for most of the higher end tech positions (software engineer, devops, cloud, cyber, etc). Much of the tech layoffs have actually been in those peripheral jobs that have coasted on the luxury of not having to be as tech literate as everyone else. That is no longer viable for most serious tech companies. Google is dying partially because they have massively over inflated the project management aspect of the business , ironically leading to numerous failed and underwhelming projects. As companies get into AI, a field that moves too fast to just copy-paste a six year old job posting that was already lazily written, they cant compete if they use these crap hiring methods. With Cybersecurity who cares? Its not a profit center and scientific studies have shown that the vast majority of breaches don’t affect revenue or stock value. With AI they cant afford to just keep paying HR to copy-paste a shoddy posting and ghost everyone. They need a MUCH more streamlined process of sourcing and vetting talent otherwise competitors will snatch them up. These hires actually DO affect the bottom line and stock value, including short term. Sucks to be a tech illiterate HR or PM right now. For everyone else , the reason it’s gotten so bad is because HR is literally being scraped out from the inside. Tons of them are weeping on LinkedIn. Tons of low quality recruiters are begging for jobs on LinkedIn too.

I don’t mean to be discouraging to anyone reading my comment, I just wanted to provide insight from what I’m experiencing. So, last week I had two really good interviews and was asked for second interviews! One actually required I complete 3 different exams, however they called them “surveys” and one was a “personality” test, one was a pattern/logic test, and the third was kind of math / reasoning related. Never seen anything like this to get a job, however I’m thankful to be asked to interview.
