It works for irregular verbs as well but it usually falls under the Too Many Vowels rule. Ir would by yendo for example. Thanks for asking!

If you had needed a "ser" verb instead, wouldn't that imply that the action wasn't limited by the present even though it were happening in present?

Hola! The Present Progressive needs the verb estar in front of the verb. You wouldn't ever see it with ser in front of the verb. But, you could say something like, "Estás siendo buen estudiante." And it would mean You are being a good student (siendo coming from ser.) Hope that helps! And, although less common, you can just use it by itself. "¿Qué estás haciendo?" "Caminando".

@@Bit-while_going I see what you're trying to do. If I break down that sentence though it really has 2 parts "Soy humano" is saying that you are and always will be a human. The "caminando" part isn't grammatically correct because it's missing the "esta" even though we all know what you mean. Technically, the sentence should actually be "Soy humano que esta caminando." If you want to imply that you will never stop walking then you'd have to thrown in a 'siempre.' Hope that helps!

So my question is this: Google Translate, as useful as it can be sometimes, obviously doesn’t help with grammar. I understand this concept really well, but the only thing that confuses me is this sentence: los verbos que recuerdo sin ayudar in my head makes sense saying verbs I remember without help. So to test it I put it in translate and it said helping. So is translate correct, and I’d say ayuda instead? I figured looking up progressive tense to refresh myself would help.

Good afternoon! An infinitive verb (one that ends in ar, er, or ar) can mean two things! "Sin ayudar" can mean 'without help' or 'without helping.' It just depends on how you want to translate it!

You can't only drop the "ir" from "dormir" and add "iendo." You forgot all about the stem-changing "o->u." I don't trust your videos due to this huge error.
