Its very loyal, honorable and makes him into a "strong" character. BUT I enjoy Yorinobu's fighting spirit more - although everyone was like "hes just black sheep", "cheap ass rebel", "his father holds his balls tight and can crush them at any time" etc., Yorinobu managed what Silverhand couldnt and only V can stop him from destroying Arasaka. I loved Goro, and it made me sad you can't wrest him away from arasaka, but it makes sense that you can't. He's been indoctrinated since childhood, that's not something you can change with a few weeks/months of misadventures, and in fact, the reason Goro saves you and helps you is all so he can go back to Arasaka. So of course he curses you in all the endings in which you end up wrecking Arasaka, you ruined the last chance he had to get what he wanted, after risking life and limb to help you.

Takemura has the perfect ending in fact. He is a warrior driven by honor, and he would never have even honor to bear if it wasn't for Arasaka. Even if his destiny is sad, it's what it needed to be. If you haven't talked much about Goro, or don't know - he was saved from Chiba-11, deadliest district of Japan, it bathes in chemical pollution and crime. He was chosen when an Arasaka patrol came. They were visiting regularily, picking the best and healthiest childrens of them all. He was trained, educated, and fed, three things he couldn't have inside of Chiba-11. Then, Saburo Arasaka himself noticed him and made him his personal bodyguard. It is just because Goro was the rightest and more honourable, traits that Saburo himself should have enjoyed due to his old age and love of old japanese values - and also because it made Takemura the perfect lapdog, yes. But faced to the life he was meant to live without Arasaka? I would have done the same without flinching even a bit. Most of us, if not all, would have. And also, without Arasaka, he is basically nothing. His chrome doesn't work and he is deprived of the only thing that makes sense to him : honor. Even worse, his honor is just thrown down the thrash in the story. It's simple - Goro Takemura isn't Goro Takemura without Arasaka. Choosing to not side with them, is siding against Goro. His honor commands it.

Takemura’s incredible loyalty and honor lead him to becoming a lap dog for the Arasaka family. This loyalty becomes chains he refuses to break free from, even when he knows he is seen as a mere tool to them. The arasaka family is all he has ever known and is afraid to lose that. Reed is much like Takemura, a man who has a big heart for all of his team. Yet will make choices that create rifts between them. I've always liked Takemura and what he represents. Cyberpunk fiction as a genre has always invoked samurai imagery in the way it's presented not only mercenaries but even hackers, equating the skill of a good hacker to that of the legends of samurai swordsmen. The Plague in the film 'Hackers' even makes the comparison, and if you look at Cowboy Bebop the main cast mostly parallels Lupin III and his crew: Lupin and Spike, Jigen and Jet, Fujiko and Faye, but the main seeming difference is Goemon and Ed * Ein. I always took it like Goemon and Ed are meant to be equivalent, the highly-skilled weirdo reflecting a specific culture the rest of their group don't quite grasp, but again we've got samurai and hackers. A lot of cyberpunk fiction likens megacorps like feudal lords, as well. The 'honorable man serving a dishonorable lord' is a classic trope of samurai fiction, and Takemura is a representation of that translated beautifully into the cyberpunk genre. And while you do get into it with him regarding Arasaka a few times over the course of the game, especially during the scouting mission, I always wished there was a way to explicitly point out that Night City is the way it is *because* Arasaka decided it needed to be that way. 'Filthy cities full of desperate poor people' is the world paying the cost of that 'civilized' high life that Takemura respects so much. I wish you could ask him if he would have still become a child soldier if the place where he grew up hadn't sucked so much it was the best way out. While this isn't the case for all of them, many of the cyberpsychos Regina asks you to capture got that way because someone made the conscious choice to betray them and at the very least let them become monsters (if not directly caused it). The dead bodies you see strewn around cyberpsycho lairs are the costs being paid so some Arasaka or Militech exec can expense a fancy lunch. Night City's condition is a choice Arasaka made. Of course, Takemura is flawed, too. Despite his seeming naivety in places, maybe he does see all this and has made his choice. After all, a lot of 'honorable samurai serving dishonorable lord' stories end with the most honorable solution offered to such a samurai -- seppuku as a form of protest. And last I checked, I don't think there's a point where we see Takemura offering to perform the three cuts. But regardless, he's a compelling character and I think it'd be interesting to see a Cyberpunk story in that vein where he (or a player-built character with a similar backstory) is the protagonist.

Like Arthur told to John: "Be loyal to what matters", however, Takemura never had a chance to experience life that was worth living outside of Arasaka, before being taken by them, he lived in abject poverty.
@ZachPrime Жыл бұрын
I love takamura as a person, even if I disagree with literally every decision he makes. Unshakable loyalty, but I appreciate that even when we're telling him to abandon everything that he holds dear he knows that it is purely because we actually care about him. An honest to God Street Samurai.

Because he was taken from his slum at too early age to be changed. He's simply brainwashed into being an Arasaka lapdog with no chance of changing that.

Shame, I really like Takemura and he grows on you a lot during your missions. It's a shame the only way for him to truely recipicate and treat you as a friend is for you to go down the Arasaka route, which is debatedly the 'bad' (or at least bitter-sweet) ending. Does this choice lead him to leave a 'nice' phone message on the credit role call? The only one I've seen is him damning you to hell before he seemingly commits suicide.
@napoleonplzx3 жыл бұрын
Sadly it doesn't, you won't get any post-credit message on Arasaka and "offing yourself" route. You'll only get the damning you one after you attack arasaka tower on any methods, doesn't even matter if you give your body to Johnny it's still the same.

Not gonna lie, in my personal head canon- If you accept the deal with Takemura they will later resurrect V in an artificial body much like Smasher's body was as V would have killed him leaving a hole in Arasaka's fear factor. An aged Takemura gives up the mantle of bodyguard of the Arasaka family to V as only the best warrior could carry on his teachings like Oda. This new V would fight much like Oda too because of this but much, much more lethal using the sandevistan and with the firepower that smashed Adam to bits. This new V would be an anonymous monster at Arasaka's side in a sequel game under a mask and cloak with blood red mantis blades who occasionally chases the player but can't be defeated or even shot as they dodge everything with blurring speed until the very end.

you know..i wonder what takemura's breakign point would be. Yorinobu became host to his father, on the orders of Saburo's engram..who was pulling Hanako's strings the entire time. Would he STILL maintain loyalty if, as a last bit of defiance, Yori killed himself and Saburo turned toHhanako or Michiko as a host? after all, there's nothing "wrong" with them as host bodies that a few cosmetic surguries and implants wouldn't fix.

what makes him strong to be given the title of body guard to the emperor of all people? he obviously isnt a Adam Smasher type of character or anything

It's his unswerving loyalty and borderline fanaticism. That's what Saburo Arasaka saw in him the day he chose Takemura to be his bodyguard.

It’s not the blind obedience that is carried in Takemura. It is quite literally a life devotion, a giri. Goro had relinquished his life in service to Saburo and by extension Hanako. He can have conflicting opinions about the corp but it is his sacrifice of self and personal life duty to serve Arasaka. He is Saburo’s closest ally, not being an immediate family member.

The thing is alt fucking lies along with arasaka and the mr blue eyes guy is more then likely the same guy fucking with the mayor. All parties have a vested interest in making sure V thinks there is no cure, Alt and blue are probably planning a second against humanity using the raw power of the ai's in mikoshi and arasaka 100% wants the merc who has been talking to silverhand wiped off the map, there is not a doubt in my mind V is perfectly fine, might have their life cut short by maybe a decade or be able to cure themselves in a really easy way, ie just clone another body and upload v to it.
@TheFlyingPilgrim3 жыл бұрын
@@royalpain6338 I like that theory, though I thought cloning and transferring a consciousness are supposed to be a big deal in the Cyberpunk universe? At least, I remember hearing that even in 2020’s tabletop lore, Saburo was preparing for his consciousness to be coded into an AI for when he finally passed. He was wanting to find a way to make that work with cloning, unless I’m misremembering.

In the mission search and destroy, you can save him by going up from where you fall. It wasn't obvious because Johnny said that he's already toast, turns out he was still holding out.
