That’s why I think the best endings are the ones where V dies a legend. More specifically the best ending imo is by maxing out your relationship with Johnny, saving songbird, doing the “Don’t Fear The Reaper” route, and doing the “Temperance” (letting Johnny have the body). Nobody gets hurt, Johnny gets a redemption story due to V seeing he deserves it and V still somewhat lives on with Alt.

The only thing bad about this ending is that this conversation absolutely blows out of the water the conversations with Johnny that you get for the other endings. In this one it feels like you and Johnny are actually friends, all the others it still feels like there’s some tension between the two of you. Kind of makes me wish they redid the others, but this one is my favorite ending anyway.

They had close to three years to figure out that the way they did the endings of the main game was...far from perfect(i really didn't like any of them, not because of the outcome, but more because of how incoherent they were...also, Alt was there in most of them and i absolutely despise her character :D), and attempted to improve on them. And knocked it out of the park, i'd say, because holy shit that conversation is a tear-jerker. Honestly, while i have severe criticisms of how PL integrates with the main game(very, uh, poorly for the most part), if the quality of character writing in PL is what we can expect from CDPR writers going further, that makes me incredibly optimistic about their future projects.

In my first ending Johnny was willing to sacrifice himself so V could live, cause they ended having a pretty good relationship. In my second it was forced cause the relationship was awful. Also, these endings fit pretty good with the general tone of the game, as the idea was never for V to have it easy, but to have a bittersweet ending. V chose to live in a burst of flames. Same as in Phantom, Liberty, were EVERY ending is bittersweet somehow. Also, how are the endings "incoherent"?

Thought of you gone so I could live always scared me more" This broke me... like, in this ending more than any other I feel like he's showing how much he cares for V. If there's one thing this ending proved to me, it's how much of a force of good Johnny ultimately was for V throughout everything, even if nothing more than just someone to keep V from feeling lonely. Imagine all those missions where it's just you and Johnny in some godforsaken place... but with no Johnny. How many moments of this game would feel so isolating and cold. 90% of the rest of the game would feel like the alleyway outside of Vik's when V returns to NC... it would be so much more depressing, lonely, hard to cope with. If you call him out at the oil fields, and challenge him to be better, he's not afraid to show that he's grown so much during his time with V. Both of them have grown. And what makes this ending so fucking hard to swallow is just how calm and at peace Johnny is during this last convo. And the entire time I was sitting here like... maybe we should've given him that one last moment of glory in Arasaka. V at least owes him that, seeing how, if you've developed a good relationship with him, he's willing to be sacrificed and be so heartbreakingly kind to V in these awful final moments. Like, being guilty and apologetic here has him saying he's basically proud of you for how far you've come. That's not the asshole Silverhand everyone knew... that's V's friend. The one person who has been there for every shitty moment of the entire journey. And it's why the rest of the ending feels so awful. Even if you had zero other friends throughout your playthrough, alienated every single other person. Johnny would be there for you in the other endings. But in this case, you don't even have him. So when they all abandon V... what's left? Dying together sounds a hell of a lot more appealing when you see what living alone actually looks like here :(

And he made a lot of mistakes- it was basically his fault Alt died how she did (if he hadn’t intervened she would’ve fought her way out since she built a backdoor in Soulkiller for precisely the situation they put her in) and he burned a lot of his bridges. But yeah I agree, he was never really this horrific villainous martyr the corps portrayed him as. ALSO you’re so right. It’s funny, the game sort of alludes to how his memories V relives can’t be trusted but never explicitly say the truth from the lore about how it wasn’t actually Johnny who planted the bomb or planned the operation, he was just the unlucky fucker who got caught 😭 And they never really go into the fact that the whole thing was made possible by Blackhand selling out to Militech. Meanwhile Morgan Blackhand walked away (assumedly), crazy bastard. Lots of people finish the game and have no idea what really happened lol

Great ending. Brings to mind Lord of the Rings and the death of Boromir. It's the mutual respect in the end, when they finally understand each others motivations. "I would have followed you, my brother, my captain, my king"- It's beyond friendship. It's Johnny admitting to himself that V deserves his respect and that he would let V lead him all over again.

The thing with the endings is they are always open for hope. Johnny getting to live a life, Mr Blue Eyes helping v find a way to live “more than you could imagine”, finding a way to live while searching with the Panam and the nomads, even this particular one doesn’t end on an absolute like you may some day be able to use cyberware again. Doesn’t make them any less hard hitting, just something I noticed. Given the original endings it was probably naive to hope for a fairy tale (which to me was V and Johnny co existing) ending with Phantom Liberty, I actually saved Songbird in my first playthrough, but damn if I didn’t hold out hope right until the very end, even after Songbird tells you the truth, I still had hope lol. Shows how invested I was in the story, which is a sign of good story telling and I honestly can’t think of a game that does it better.

I thought the suicide ending was sad cuz of all the friends calling and your final moments together. Panam literally hates you and hopes you’re in hell while Judy is heartbroken and alone now. First Ev now V. I definitely cried a little on that ending but this shit would have had me in mourning like I lost a real friend. They created something truly special with this game

Thinking back on the game, what makes this moment special to me is when V is at clouds, they say their real name, only for V to say “just V, only people who know me really well can use my real name” Johnnys been in your head this whole time, looking at your memories as if they where his own, there will never be anyone in the world who knew V more than Johnny silverhand

I unfortunately didn't realise I was approaching the end of the phantom liberty, DLC when I started the twin impersonating mission, and so I didn't max out johnny's relationship like I wanted to. It was genuinely so heartbreaking. He understands V just wants to live yet he can't help but feel bitter and angry, he even says he won't beg for his life and the facial animations were so real I truly felt his venom towards V. before you get on the transporter he's stood in the doorway looking at you almost with disgust on his face. He basically argues with you during the journey but it's more just out of disappointment. Yet right as my V closed his eyes Johnny said he forgives him and that was the last thing they said to eachother. Really was choking back tears by that point 😂

@@GeneralBulldog54 you have to complete all the johnt relative side missions (pretty sure everything with kerry, and the band members from samurai) and from what I remember you have to be friendly towards him the whole game and you may even need to have picked specific dialogue options in "chippin in" that may not still be the case tho

You can just load one of the many autosave files the games does, right before the point of no return.
