So today I was like: "Maybe I should do a rewatch of Dena's review of Deader and Hellworld?" And then I thought: "Why stop there? I may as well rewatch the whole retrospective!" And so I did. It was a marvelous journey going from the original movie and its theatrical sequels to the straight-to-video releases. Especially because it was also a journey from 80s through 90s and early 2000s. At the same time your commentary is always awesome because there is a lot of introspection that gives even the later sequels some edge. Honestly I will be waiting for continuation of this retrospective someday.

Hey Dena just so you know, Hellraiser Judgement is at least pretty good/entertaining, I liked the idea that the Cenobites are a separate faction from the other demons in the movie known as The Stygian Inquisition, so when you eventually get to it I hope you enjoy it at least somewhat. Unlike Hellraiser's Trash pile of Hellworld and Revelations

Just thought I'd leave this comment here, Doug Bradley is doing some work in Horror again. He was hired by Games Workshop to narrate one of their newest line of Warhammer Horror stories. The book is called The Wicked and the Damned. Gives me hope he'll come back as Pin Head some day.

Hey thanks for mentioning that! He also does the audiobook version of a (really meta and weird) Clive Barker called "Burn This Book" or something like that, can't quite remember the title. The book itself is very "take it or leave it" but Doug Bradley's narration is a masterclass, as you might imagine.

If I can make a suggestion, I think you should see the short film No More Souls if you haven't already. It was made by Gary Tunnicliffe, who did Doug's Make-up since Hellraiser III, and shows that he gets the seires and has the political to make a good Hellraiser movie. It's also, if I'm not mistaken, one of the reasons he and Doug had a falling out and one of the reasons why he didn't reprise his role as Pinhead.

I was big into Hellraiser in my teens. I was 17 in 2000, so I'd watched the first 4 movies many times, and was still into it enough to watch Inferno when it came out. After that point I was moving on with other things in my life and forgot about it. A few years later, when having a computer with the internet at home was now more widespread, I saw an advert online for Hellworld and freaked out over a new Hellraiser movie (I had no idea that 2 others had already came before it). I thought to myself "well it's a straight to DVD movie, so it probably won't be amazing, but it's a new Hellraiser movie!". Wow, what an understatement "it probably won't be amazing" was! The even sadder thing is, that after having seen all the Hellraiser movies now (currently anyway, up to Judgement), there are now 3 movies I'd consider even worse than this piece of shit: Revelations (enough said), Judgement (I hated the concept of basically turning Pinhead into Satan, punishing people for their sins, and even including actual angels to the lore), and Hellseeker (fuck off destroying the character of one of horror's greatest heroines by turning her into a serial murderer, making her not much better than Julia, that's not my Kirsty).

It feels strange to have anything with Lance Henriksen be a big reveal. At this point in his career, any time he shows up, it's a big deal. He's always integral to some aspect of the plot. For the movie to say "You'll never guess: Lance Henriksen was more important than we let on!" feels really, really lame. It's the opposite of The Usual Suspects, where it was hard to guess who Keyser Soze was because they made a point of casting a bunch of actors who typically play villains.

idk, watching this part i remember why i liked it. i'm a bit of a fan of movies in franchises that don't fit the mold. like halloween 3(?) season of the witch, and i think hellraiser 4 as well, the nightmare on elm st tv series etc. i think it's because often the first movie or two are pretty much as far as the premise will go without becoming self-parody or formulaic, so if they do something crazy instead it kind of leaves the 'real' movies like the first 2 hellraisers alone.

Considering how limited Revelations production was, I almost think it's not worth getting mad about. Unlike this, which squanders a possible budget and talent. I looked at some of Revelations IMDB, and I'm surprised the director , the same that did the great post-apocalyptic short, wasn't able to be Pinhead in Revelation. The vibe I got from the movie was newbies trying to work in a cheap rushed production. Not entirely thoughtless, but time and money probably wouldn't have made it beyond okay anyway.

I think the saddest part is great actors like Lance Henriksen, Doug Bradley couldn't even save this pile of crap jump scare fest slasher masquerading as a Hellraiser movie. Such waste as I always thought this could of been good but yeah. I think the first 3 Hellraiser movies are the only best tier ones while maybe Hellseeker being a close second to the first 3rd. I hope your ready Dena as Hellraiser revelations might make you question the people behind making the movies. As it did for me. Also hope at some point you give the pumpkinhead movies a try and see if you like them, as they were at least for me very good didn't expect them to be good as well.

Even though Hellworld was one of the absolute worst parts of the franchise (and the first one in the series that made me activelly angry), Revelation does NOT at all make it any better and though Judgement does try to salvage the series in it’s own way the attempts are - in my opinion - misguided and leaves the film with its own problems...
