A new breed of cyborg cockroach is being created at a research lab in Japan. Electronic backpacks glued to the insects are used to send signals, which scientists use to direct the cockroaches’ movements. This could allow rescue teams to remotely search hazardous areas for trapped people, and gather information after earthquakes or other natural disasters.
