Indoor Cyclamen (Cyclamen persicum) are one of my favorite Holiday indoor plants. Every fall they start to fill the shelves of garden centers and grocery stores. They're irresistible additions to the Holiday decor, but many gardeners struggle to keep their Cyclamen happy.
In this video I detail everything you need to know to keep your Cyclamen happy so they can bloom and bloom and bloom. But when they're done blooming, that doesn't mean they're dead! Watch the entire video to learn how to care for your Cyclamen after they've finished blooming so that you can get them to bloom the following fall and winter as well, and the one after that too! Because they're perennials!
If you enjoy my videos, make sure you subscribe and like the videos! I publish new videos every week, so click the bell to receive notifications of when I upload!

Great video! Thanks! I loved the explanation about the Mediterranean climate; that makes the plant's life cycle so much more understandable. One question: if I repot it just as it is going dormant, should I water it once right after repotting to make sure the soil settles around it (as I do with most plants when I repot them), or should I leave it dry until it is time to wake it up in the fall?
@plantvibrations

Thank you so much for all of your information.. I purchased one back in November, and it is blooming wonderfully. I live in Florida so should I place it outside when it is dormant? I'm concerned it will be too hot outside. We get temperatures in the summer time over 100 degrees. What do you suggest? Do I bring it back inside in September and start to water so that it can bloom again? I read somewhere to place it in a dark cool place during dormancy. Thanks so much for your input.

awesome, thanks for watching us! yes, the best time to fertilize them is once they come back out of dormancy and during their active growth time. that will be around august/september. let them stay quite dry during the summer, and no fertilizer when they have no foliage

Hi! My son gifted me a beautiful little potted plant when I was in the hospital between major surgeries in late March, then in April I suddenly had to have a quadruple bypass open heart surgery on April 29. That little plant is still blooming! This seventh week of my recovery! I investigated what it is and found out it is a cyclamen. So gorgeous, and it has given me such joy! I want to take such good care of it! I stumbled upon your video and feel like I know what to watch for when it begins to go dormant. We live in Oregon. We’ve had such a mild spring/summer so far this year and it’s been relatively cool on my balcony which faces west. I am concerned for when it starts to get too warm. I’m afraid my kitties will eat it if I bring it inside with the air conditioning, though. During dormancy, does there still need to be lots of light with just monthly watering? Anyway, I’ll do my best. I just loved your video and I totally subscribed to your channel. Thank you for any advice you might be able to provide.
@plantvibrations
@plantvibrations 2 жыл бұрын
Wow glad to hear you made it through ok! It’s best to keep it outside even during dormancy, they hate being inside. They don’t need as much light during dormancy but it won’t hurt. Watering once every week or so should be fine

Okay! Fantastic! I watched with my own eyes when it got pretty warm on our balcony today, the flower stems just sort of started laying down. Then as evening brought refreshing cooler air onto my balcony they perked right back up. I’m thinking I’ll shade this sweet little plant from the direct afternoon sun behind my huge potted lavender plant, do you think that will be enough to keep it happy?. Are they able to withstand ninety degree weather as long as they are in the shade? Also, thank you so much for responding. I have a sentimental attachment to this darling potted flower, my heart is happiest when it is also happy ☺️ ❤️‍🩹

I added cyclamen this year to my plant family. They are just so exquisitely beautiful that I couldnt resist anymore! So my question is that my first one has quit flowering 😥 and some leaves are turning yellow, but it is still putting out little baby leaves, should I just go ahead and cut it back and let it dry out? I have been loving the just leaves look too (they are almost as beautiful as the flowers) so I have been taking out the yellow and letting the new baby leaves come up.
@plantvibrations
@plantvibrations 3 жыл бұрын
i think you are doing exactly right. cut off the old flowers and yellowing leaves as they occur. eventually it'll stop producing new baby leaves all together and at that point is when it'll be going into dormancy all together. so enjoy the continuation of new baby leaves as they sprout!

The other is doing very well..I think the one that has lost its leaves..I misted the leaves?? and now I watched not to do that obviously it did not like this..Hopefully it has time bloom again before dormancy season starts in March..🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️USA here...

Wow! Thanks so much. I tried growing these 20 years ago but did not do well. I live in San Francisco so we are supposed to have a "Mediterranean Climate", and I will try again paying attention to your advice. Really, I was doing everything exactly wrong, OMG. Could you give us any tips on propagating these from cuttings (something else I tried and failed it)? I have seen videos on growing from seed, which looks a little intimidating - and if you succeed, what do you with 30 or 50 cyclamen in a small Victorian house, haha? I have seen some videos that give advice on growing from a leaf cutting, and other written comments that say a leaf cutting and a very small piece from an outer leaf with a tiny part of the bulb. Do you have any experience or advice on this? I grown cattleya orchids very successfully in my home environment and the temperature requirements for cyclamen are very similar. Thanks much for your video from JP in San Francisco.

It's mid May now (I'm is zone 8) and my cyclamens just won't go dormant! There are fewer flowers now, but they still look happy and I can still see new buds getting ready to bloom! @@plantvibrations Hi. I just want to tell you that I solved the problem I commented before (cyclamen with flowers below the foliage). I got longer stems by watering more. I was being too careful when watering. My cyclamen plants received enough water to produce flowers, but with short stems. I didn't want to increase watering because one of my cyclamen died from overwatering, but I decided to take the risk. Now I water from the bottom for longer time, and the results have been incredible. Thanks!
