"Jump off the bike," man you need to lay off the Tom Crooze movies. You better turn off ABS too just in case you need to low side it under an 18 wheeler. What you need to buy is a tow package so that you don't have an emotional meltdown if your bike won't start.

its called you don't want to go down with a 100+ pound bike since that leads broken legs and if you can disperse your energy over distance you will be less likely to be hurt

KK: Have you ever been in a MC accident? Shit happens quick when you're moving. Even if you could find time to jump off, you'd be flying in the direction of whatever you're going to hit anyway. Gravity will bring it right back to eye level is short order. Bikes weigh a lot more than 100 lbs, but whether you jump or your bike hits it, your body will continue floating thru the air at the same speed it was going before you left the seat. The only thing jumping would do is give you that much less time to brake and swerve around the obstacle. You guys should watch racing some time. You'd learn a lot about how these things work. Racers often come barreling around a corner to find someone/bike lying in their path they have to avoid. I've been watching for decades and I've yet to see anyone ever leap off their bike to avoid it. And they most always do manage to avoid it.

The pegs... It's a cruiser, most cruisers have forward legs, that allows for the sitting position, . As for a car pulling in front of you, cancel your turn signals!, luckily the diavel has self cancelling. Trunk, carry a backpack, battery, that will be the one thing I agree with you..

If it's a battery tender brand trickle charger, battery tender makes a USB cable that attaches to the bike like you were charging it, but it gives you power for phone, GPS, heated gloves, whatever you need

May 2016. Kawasaki concours vs deer. 72 mph. I didn't bail and I didn't try to take the ditch. I hung on and it was the best decision I ever made. I went through the centre of the deer and broke it in half. I didn't go down and I walked away with a slightly sore back and covered on my left side in grass. The deer didn't do as well and most of the front of the bike was missing, i.e. fairing and lights. I can't imagine ever jumping off but I guess there might be a situation where you could. I think if I was heading for a truck I would swerve the bike instead of slicing under it after jumping. I thought bailing out was only for planes.

Cruza; Locating the battery where Ducati did is one of the reasons your Diavel handles as brilliantly as it does. 'Dummy' pegs will leave you with the same lack of confidence(and increased danger) because your foot 'controls' will be absent. Either get used to it or spread your cheeks for Ducati's answer. Or mount "dummy" forward mounts after your Italian buggery. 'Bikers' have called them "Highway Pegs" for decades. Except for the replacement of the ubiquitously effete HORN motorcycles are commonly given; For the next 5000 miles suspend all activity altering the motorcycle and defer to gripe #5.

Douglas Elliott I agree, the mid foot pegs will decrease his reaction time in an emergency creating more of a danger than the minimal safety benefit of "jumping off". And you could always add a top box or side cases for your ride to California, easily remove them when not needed.

Cyclecruza maybe take your bike to a Ducati service shop and see if they can wire you up some extra plug ins and look nice without voided your warranty. As for the foot pegs being in the middle I have ridden thousands of miles and it isn't no where near as comfortable as feet forward. You want feel like riding to California with your feet in the middle. Don't believe me bottoe or rent a cruiser and ride a weekend with your feet in the middle position. I've said this already but give yourself more reaction time and enjoy your comfort.

Actually, a viewer thanked me for my advice on jumping from the bike, save him from death. He saw a truck go through a stop sign and he had no time to swerve so he leaped from his bike and landed on top of the truck while his bike was smashed to pieces. He walked away without a scratch and thanked me in a comment. Also, dirtbikers do it all the time to help avoid injury. I do it on my wr250r when riding off-road, leap from the bike when I feel the bike is about to go down. NINJA STYLE! NOTE: Ask dirtbikers / motocross riders/ freestyle riders, who jump off their bikes to avoid injury and maybe they will help you understand better. Peace!

6 things you dont like...you mentioned that buying any parts for a Ducati is expensive. I can tell that causes a little extra anxiety about reliability issues. I'm sure all the extra electronics and CPUs add to that stress as well. seems comprable to buying a Ferrari or something, you love the looks and you really enjoy the Italian artwork but deep inside you worry about the cost of putting miles on it. Still,no good reason to be having any buyers remorse. it's badass man.

Couldnt you route a wire under the tank somehow ? and you can check power requirement easily ~ Power (in watts) = volts x amps, if your gloves have a power rating on them divide it by 14 and that will give you how many amps they`ll take, as long as your fuse rating is above that your good

Any heated gear using the 12 V on top will blow fuses, trust me found that out the hard way. wire directly from the battery, fuse it with relay, and just run it up along the 12v sat nav wire.

No problems so far but I avoid riding on gravel roads or bad roads. Prior to purchasing the bike I contacted Ducati headquarters with questions about all of the common problems reported on this bike. They said to ride very cautiously on roads with debris, so that's what I will do. After about a good 6 month of riding this bike I will do a proper review and address any problems, just as I have with other bike I've owned so far with this channel.

I wouldn't own a bike I was afraid to work on. I've owned about 45 bikes, maybe 20 of them were new, all the new ones were Japanese. I have NEVER taken a bike to a dealer for maintenance or repairs. I am a trained professional auto mechanic with 36 years experience, and while I am not a professional motorcycle mechanic, a machine is a machine. I understand how they work, I'm not just a parts changer. Most things transfer over. I have never, and will never, own a bike with EFI, ABS, or any kind of computer on it. Riding a bike is one of the things I do to GET AWAY from that kind of garbage.

Except with a carb you wont be out riding you will be at home rebuilding it. I have noticed time and time again many old school mechanics who hate fuel injection and love carburetors. I have vintage bikes and after the 5th carb rebuild I seriously question why anyone with any level of mechanical ability would prefer these archaic devices (the carburetor). Usual I find that they are terrified of fuel injection because they don't have the slightest idea of how to troubleshoot FI. But they can tear apart a carb and brag all day to their friends how they fixed it. They always act like they just performed brain surgery. Big deal you turned a few screws and got the crap out of it. I would rather be out riding then fcking around with some piece of shit carb that a previous owner neglected.

That's odd. People rode carbed bikes for 100 years before EFI became common. EFI exists only because of the EPA. I have never had carb problems. I have one bike right now that I bought new back in 2002, it currently has 128,000+ miles on it, and the carbs have never been off. It has always run flawlessly. I've never put that many miles on any other bike, but I've had around 45 carbed bikes, the only ones I ever had any issues with at all were 2 strokes. 2 stroke tuning is finicky. I have NEVER, in 42 years, had trouble with a carb on a 4 stroke bike, and I suspect that has been most other riders experience as well. EFI is NOT trouble free. Just running out of gas can destroy a $500 fuel pump. A shorted battery can destroy the ECU. The parts are ridiculously expensive. A new motorcycle carb costs around $400 and lasts forever. All the parts that make up an EFI system (for a single cylinder) cost around $1500. And when they fail, they can't be repaired like a carb can. About the only thing that can happen to a carb is getting dirty, from leaving old gas in it. But that can happen to a fuel injector and in tank fuel pump as well. If you want to tune a carb, you need a couple of $5 jets. If you want to tune an EFI system, you need a $500 Power Commander. I know all too well how fuel injection works. I am an ASE certified auto mechanic, with 36 years experience. At 58, I guess that makes me old school. Just finding an issue with a computerized engine management system requires $1000 or more worth of diagnostic equipment, and vehicle specific software. Cars also did just fine with carbs for 100 years. EFI is not something wonderful that car and motorcycle manufacturers decided to do for their customers, they were pushed into it by the EPA, a totally corrupt govt. agency. But it also benefited dealers, as they are the only ones who have the specialized software to diagnose problems with it. Many independent shops have gone out of business because they could not afford to buy that expensive software that dealers get for free. EFI is one of the worst vehicle related things that has ever been foisted onto consumers, yet most of them think it is a good thing because the EPA said so. Just like the new extended maintenance schedules that can cut the life of a vehicle in half.

my issue with carburetors is that unlike you and I who apparently keep our machines and carburetors well maintained, a lot of jackasses leave them sitting full of that ethanol crap and it totally buggers them up. Then they sell the bikes that way after years of sitting. So maybe my angst would be better aimed at jackasses and the EPA and this shitty ethanol gas than the carburetor itself. Also I didn't mean to imply YOU don't know how to troubleshoot EFI, but most everyone I know doesn't have a clue. I do see your point about FI, when it goes it goes completely and is expensive. It is totally ridiculous that the EPA wants cats on bikes yet they have allowed the heavy truck market to ignore many smog regulations. insane. We agree- the EPA is corrupt.
