Judging from the contact patch on Vantine's bike during that DQ run, it's twisting the rear suspension and putting more weight on the right side of the tire at the big end of the track, and pushing the bike left. Maybe there's a broken strut that's not showing up until it's under power? Just a thought...

Great video. Great job of commentating, so far. At 8:00 mark, I would guess, frame flexing, for some reason, or uneven traction, side to side, on rear tire, bad tire, or burnout, front, or rear tire not on centerline. I hope the figure out what it actually is. Very interesting to know. At 11:01, I saw a steering damper on a bike, on next run. A simple possibility there, also. On the rules for drifting over the center line, if a bike has shown a tendency to drift the same direction, more than once, maybe twice, in the same event, it presents a strong risk to its rider and to his opponent, in any future side by side runs. Even in a single bike run it points to strong risk in a future side by side run. Rule, or no rule, I can understand the DQ, after several times of drifting like that. I wouldn't want to race him.

Torque steer is what the slow motion video shows when the bike leaves it 60 straight because of strong left side wheelie bar wheel contact but once it gets up on the tire the input from the wheelie bar goes away because of diminishing Torque leverage over the tire so tire speed is rapidly increasing and so is tire growth thus unloading the wheelie bar and now the front wheel has a say in the matter so with the Torque steer that is being applied the chassis is flexing thus driving the bike left ..if it wheelies the whole length of the track it would go straight...... Larry Spiderman Mcbride has always been my favorite CH3² kind of a home town heroe but I like all bikes the ones that go straight the ones that only turn left the ones that jump and definitely the ones that drive edges of the tires

I never want to see a team put in so much time, money & sweat & then to have an issue at the track. This must be a DQ just for the safety of the riders. What's scary is that if he was in the Left Lane, he'd be aiming for the wall. DQ while you still have a rider & bike, race another day.
@GeorgeENorkus2 жыл бұрын
First, I'm not into motorcycle drag racing. Around the 23:40 mark on your video when he took off, note that his bike when on to the left wheely bar. That tells me his leftward ride was mechanical. Sorry if I don't know the exact reason. Looking at where he launched from, I wonder if the bike would drift right if he had launched from the center of the black line instead of slightly on the right side. It is possible the right side of his tire was gripping or slipping compaired to the left and center of his tire. That could have caused the leftward drift. I really am guessing on that.
@phillipparker89472 жыл бұрын
In ref to the rules, if you cross the center line it should be a DQ, period. I'm not sure I would let it run, after doing it twice, it's a danger to the person he races or to himself.
@spikey27402 жыл бұрын
Great coverage, I enjoyed it. This is just a guess: Regarding crossing over into the left lane, it would have been helpful if the camera had been located up in the air, perhaps 10 to 15 feet above the track surface, in a fixed position pointing straight down the track from directly behind the racer's staging position, and not turning to follow the racer. Make it follow as closely as possible as though he had a bullseye on his back. Also, use the slow motion setting if one is available. I think the swingarm is flexing/twisting ever so slightly to start the process. Noting the chain pulls entirely on the right side, producing a cantilever effect on the swingarm. Viewed from above, the bending allows the rear tire to move toward the 11o'clock position, i.e. the front of the bike moves slightly to the right because the rear wheel has turned to the left. As the rider senses this he makes a move to counter/correct for the bending, etc. and by the time he does that the rear wheel is really chewing the track for traction, and staying on the throttle causes it to continue toward the left lane with little correction remaining for the rider to make before he's already in the wrong lane. I don't know that it would have been any clearer to see what's happening, but I truly think an overhead camera pointing in a fixed direction so everything can be seen with the same fixed eye might reveal the cause. Whatever it is likely happens within the first one or two tenths of a second, i.e. the moment the swingarm is being slammed from a no load condition. Incidentally, has the same problem ever occurred when he ran in the left lane, and have other racers experienced this problem? Best wishes, and I hope this helps.

Bye runs exist because there is an odd number of competitors in a given round, otherwise everyone races an opponent. Therefore I argue that all rules for a normal run should apply to bye runs which should require a timed pass be completed from the tree to end of the track no matter what ET and speed is achieved. It isn't fair to the other competitors when one competitor is not required to at least heat cycle their equipment during a bye run and avoid all wear and tear on the bye run equipment. Besides, if you can't make a complete bye run then you would not have been able to make a normal run against a competitor and you would have lost that round anyway. Just like crossing the center line should be a disqualifier whether someone is in the other lane or not. Sorry, but if your equipment cannot run safely down the track, you shouldn't be allowed to race until you find and fix the problem. It isn't fair to endanger a competitor in the other lane because something is wrong with your equipment, no matter what you are racing.

They use alcohol (or gas if cold) since you can't start an engine on nitro and nitro really need to be under compression to light.. but even alcohol motors use the same process.. allows the engine to spins fast enough to run the mechanical fuel pump :) (and on SUPER HUGH compression applications w/ nitromethane) build heat in the motor. .that would be like a/fuel dragster for example.. the blown stuff is preeeeetty lo compression stuff normally) 😊

Google top fuel dragster starting with nitro in cylinder it’s most impressive that nitro is wicked unstable unforgiving stuff as the other guy said zero room for mistakes there is a certain sequence in how you manage and operate on nitro and there is no room for deviation when you deviate you create a bomb quickly every time like clockwork the guys who run nitro and the guys who work on the cars that run nitro or the bikes do not get enough praise for how crazy that fuel is to use it’s as close to a bomb in a controlled manner that you write down the track as it gets top fuel nitro bikes

Hi Guys quick observation without knowing the set up; have a look at the wheelie bar wheels, it appears that the left wheel is loading up before the right! This could be a number of things if engine toque is doing this and all other things are equal it could be adjusted to counter it. But it also could be as simple as the left wheelie wheel is not running as freely as the right creating drag, pulling the bike left. I’m sure it is sorted by now.

Rear wheel steering! Rear wheel must be parallel to the left? Right side sprocket pulls wheel to the left (steering).

Set axle axle 1/8th back on right side to compensate drive pull

Yes 1/8" or even 1/4" for that much pull.

I realize they don't get enough TF entries all the time but inline 4's and v-twins should run separately or have the same rules ie both can do across the line burnouts or no across the line burnouts and the crew pushes you back. I know from running my alky dragster the NHRA is specific that if you burnout across the line you must be able to back up to stage " no pushing" allowed.

The can both burnout across the line. The Harleys just wait back because they don't need to and are set up to run for a much shorter amount of time. If you saw on my channel a few years ago Jay Turner ran out of fuel against Sam Wills. Thanks a lot for watching and following the channel. on the no1 piston failure run he rocketed off to pass and win with only three cylinders? On the left steering tendency, check to see if the swingarm is twisting under load, axle bent, tire bad, bearing loose, try a different frame, slight lean to the left on launch, knock yourselves out. I used to seriously admire drag bikes.
