A couple of quick notes: first, I'm well aware of the popular theory that the Runaway Kid was "Seven" 🙃 Second, I neglected to mention a very significant detail: during the guest chase sequence, a portrait can be seen on the wall depicting the Lady AND the girl in the yellow dress. This would seem to debunk the idea that they could be the same person, and it very well might, but I think there’s an argument to be made that the portrait is showing her past and present self. In Six’s “safe room” in the Signal Tower, portraits on the back wall appear to show her present and future selves, and in the middle spot is the same girl with her eyes scratched out - if this was actually the Lady as a child, then the portrait could easily be foreshadowing Six’s consumption of her at the end of Little Nightmares. This is extremely speculative, not confirmed by any means, but is nonetheless a way for the theory presented here to still work.

i like to think kids like six and mono are like the four horsemen of the appocolypse for the nowhere. They are there to make the nowhere collapse. Mono is a word for single or one, coincidence, no. Mono also means doll I thought that was nice.

So, I believe their numeral names do not mean their *own* names, it may actually be the name of the title of the position they have over the world. Mono (One) Two Three Four Five Six And Seven Seemingly fits better as a given title, rather than a name. A general or a commander is an example of a title, like what I just described. TLDR, their names are not truly their names, it's just their given title by the inhabitants of this world.

I think the "soot" is meant to be small piles of debris shedding off of the ceiling, the effect just so happens to clip through his character model

You might want to check out “itsjustjord”, “itstimetotheorize” and “Superhorrorbro”, all three of them are followed by the people who make the game and two of them were even recruited to help with the sounds of nightmares podcast. They have a good track record in theorizing, a lot of their stuff was even added to the wiki and their even followed by the people who make the games.

In the little nightmares fandom, only three pro theorists have made efforts to sort through the lore, “itsjustjord”, “itstimetotheorize” and “Superhorrorbro”, they have a really good track record in confirmed theories, I really recommend them, a lot of their stuff was even added to the wiki. According to them, Six broke the cycle of successors for the title of Lady of the Maw by making the decision to leave the Maw. The Thin man of little nightmares 2 was Mono, but the former resident of the black signal tower that Mono defeated, was the tall dark figure in Chp.6 of the little nightmares digital comics. The portrait of the girl in the Maw, was the girl in the yellow raincoat from very little nightmares, who was the adopted daughter of the Lady but was treated more so as a possession, another doll in the Lady’s collection and a reflection of who she used to be before becoming the Lady of the Maw. They theorized Six’s never ending hunger was the result of losing part of herself in the Pale City, Dark six, who may actually be a piece of Six’s soul. They also theorized Six has no memory of Mono or anything else from before, even after Mono saved her, but Dark six does and had been guiding Six through the Maw to help her obtain and use the Lady’s powers to reabsorb her, apparently after six bit the lady and gained her powers, dark six was standing next to her.

Surprised you didn't include Tericho in that list. But I agree, their theories are awesome! I've been watching them for years now and am quite familiar with the summary you've given here. However, Little Nightmares is an evolving franchise, and with The Sounds of Nightmares re-contextualizing everything we know about this world, I think there's room to revisit and rethink established theories.

@@indiexplorergames that’s what a lot of them are doing. In regards to Tericho, everyone knows about him, but a lot of us have noticed that he hasn’t really been making any theories lately on little nightmares over the years like he used to. He likes the game, we like what he’s added in theories, but he’s not as dedicated to it as the others, his focus has been mainly towards poppy playtime now. Superhorrorbro has also stopped as of lately because of personal issues he’s trying to sort through and because he’s trying to release his own game. Itsjustjord and itstimetotheorize have been the most active now.

I loved your interpretation! However it fell unbalanced as you stated to claim that the girl in the paintings is The Lady's daughter (rather much rcg) There is no source of proof of that matter If The Lady had a daughter, wouldn't you assume for there to be a children's room somewhere in her residence? Even some toys representing that?

@@sonicstruckcardinal7 it’s not my interpretation, this is what those professional theorists I listed had to say. They theorized the Lady treated the girl like another one of her dolls, all the dolls were sectioned off in a doll room, so the girl lived a horrible life with the Lady and chose to escape. They found details in very little nightmares showing the Maw and the Nest were connected, including packages with the Maw’s symbol being prepared for shipping, a book about the Maw in the kids room and a tapestry showing the blimp floating above the Ferryman’s boat. They theorized the Lady gets a lot of her dolls from the Nest and was the only place the raincoat girl could take the blimp to .

Dude, are you the only person that has stated these theories? I have watched channels that center themselves around this franchise and nobody has said what you’ve said…but what you’ve said is mind blowing and makes all the sense in the world. I have never seen and heard about the picture of 5 surrounded by 4 shadows or the clear 6 stages of the Thin Man growing up. This was amazing. Hell, there are 6 stages in each of those slides of generational trauma. I actually think you’ve got it. I’ve heard so many theories that are stupid and make no sense, but yours is perfect. Is there something that links Granny to being 4?

A very good question! The Granny remains something of an enigma to me. I like the idea that the previous Lady gets cast into the depths to be forgotten, and there is some evidence for that - like the 3 pictures in Six's music box room in the Signal Tower - but I'm not totally convinced yet. It's hard to get around the fact that we see Five get consumed (killed?) by Six, meaning she wouldn't become the next Granny. This is a pretty notable omission from the theory that I'm still mulling over.

I personally believe that the entire series is just one long-term scheme by the Signal Tower/Nowhere itself to eliminate and/or neutralize any and all possible threats to its power. Mono: He has some sort of supernatural powers that appear to border on reality-warping, and is eventually enslaved by the Tower. The Lady: Could possibly be a rebel of sorts, wanting nothing to do with the system of Nowhere (it's stated that the Maw is her attempt to escape the outside world) and seeking only her own self-benefit; she is killed by Six, who the Signal Tower took advantage of after the Thin Man captured her. Six: She's just a tool used to put Mono in a position where he can be effectively brainwashed into serving the Nowhere and dispose of The Lady; She has no idea of what the bigger picture is, so she's not a threat, even after acquiring The Lady's powers. The Nest Monsters: All of them either are already subservient to Nowhere, so they can bereft alone; The Pretender is killed off because she could potentially result in souls being destroyed entirely without any benefit to Nowhere; one theory suggests that the Nest's monsters were the result of the Lady experimenting and trying to come up with more ways to acquire power on her own.

It's just a message on our society...Once you fight, and defeat the thing that was your enemy, you become the enemy you sought so hard to fight, so on, so forth. Of course the cycle can be broken, however a change within the consciousness itself must be affected, meaning that old consciousness must die before there is a *real* change.

I'm glad theorists have latched on to the prospect of the maw being alive, much like the signal tower. They both seem to be dependant on some sort of vice, be it greed, gluttony, narcissism or vanity. Offering something thats convenient but corrupts and destroys people's sense of self. I think thats arguably part of the reason Six betrays Mono in LN2. The thin man put them in an isolated space with their music box, giving Six the safety they wanted but turning them into a monster as a result.

Even though she was a victim like the other children, she is still a backstabber for what she did to Mono. In a way, she caused her own torturous fate as well as trapped Mono in a time loop he may never escape from.

If this is true, it makes me wonder what happened to the nest, as it seemed to be pretty similar to the maw. I mean, I mean, if the pretender was the keeper and she died in the ocean with the rain coat girl, who would take her place? But then again the pretender is much smaller than the adults, so she could be a kid, but she’s also bigger than the kids. I don’t know if she’s meant to be growing into some sort of keeper, maybe she’s an adult who kept childhood practices like the lady. A curious thing to note is that she has a picture of herself and her parents

Maybe her parents try to really keep her alive so she would grow to be a Keeper of the Maw, there are Maw books in the nursery and the boxes where the dolls come have the same eye, perhaps they thought that keeping her lock in the Mansion until she grew would help her turn into a keeper and it seem to kinda work? She has some powers like high pitch scream and when touches someone they clothes are the only things left kinda when The Lady turns a kid into a nome, there are a bunch of nomes in the nest so maybe she's really growing to replace the lady

I'm sure someone from Bandai namco answered some questions about LN2. And there was a question: "How can time loop stop if everyone is affected by it?" And Bandai namco responded with "not everyone is affected." I'm sure there is a video abt it.

That's the thing, Six DID break the generational cycle. Six is not like The Lady, but they stray on parallel lines. That is what makes their conflict so unique to me. Someone who you used to be and the threat of the person you could have become. They are direct metaphors for each other. That in itself makes my chest hurt.

Based on everything I’ve come to understand about Little Nightmares’s world it’s not too unlikely to assume the radio tower / maw / the Pale City, it’s all one giant or multiple different living organisms. From what I understand the entire planet could be one giant eyeball connected in matter.

Good theory but I don’t think Little Nightmares should just be thought as a giant loop. The same way I don’t think the lady was a previous version of Six or Six is destined to take The Lady’s place. I think the loop theory is only for LN2 and it’s a closed off loop not effecting the whole world. I don’t think LN3 will end with a loop either proving not everything is a loop. But we will see so excited for LN3 :)

I kind of agree with you, for Little Nightmares 1 at least - I don't think Six fully took the place of the Lady, because I don't think she stuck around to run the Maw, which she would have to do in order to grow up to be the Lady someday. The cycle of the Maw, at least, is broken if Six leaves... though Six isn't necessarily spared from the greater child-to-monster cycle overall, since she seems set to go on a dark path (which, to be clear, i love that for her, i think monstrous protagonists are neat) given what she's had to do to survive and break the Maw cycle to begin with.

OMG Finally! Nice to see someone else talking about the validity of this theory, although me personally, I don't subscribe to the theory of Mono being in a time loop with the Thin Man, it just wouldn't make sense when we consider the comics. Here's what I posted a couple weeks back on RDC's last video of their Little Nightmares 2 playthrough. I made this comment under a reply giving them context of the story. Sorry if it's a little wordy: _"Fyi this is all theory stuff. Me personally I don't think it's a time loop since we see the Thin Man operate outside of the loop which we see in the comics. It's more likely that Mono just simply took the Thin Man's place, same as it's implied Six took the Lady's place. It's like a cycle of abuse that is thematically tackled through the lens of children, growing up in a harsh world filled with adults who seem threatening to them, only for the kids to grow up exactly the same as the monsters they're trying to survive against. They develop powers after surviving long enough in the Nowhere, this being symbolic of a child growing up to learn how to better adapt to an adult's world, turning that into something that can signify change, or something that continues the cycle like we see here. It's also implied too that Six might also dislike Mono due to the music box being destroyed, as before Mono tried to destroy it, Six was friendly towards Mono. They even trusted him enough to share the music box with him. It was when Mono finally destroyed it that Six decided to betray him then and there. The music box was Six's only means of escapism, with escapism acting as the main theme of the second game. The viewers get violent when the TVs get turned off, with the Signal Tower using the desires others have to escape the cruel world in order to try and feed off of them. It drains away their life using media as an outlet, something easily digestible. Thematically speaking that's similar to how some people operate in real life, the ones trying to hide away in their homes under constant fear of the outside world. If they're only sitting in front of a screen all day wasting time that could be spent making memories and going to see the good the world has to offer, then they're really just wasting the already short lifespan they have as a human. They'd rather remain hermits and trade said time in order to stay confined in their own little bubble where they control what the consume._ _Anyways, sorry for the yapping. I tend to do that for things I like a lot. Again, this is just my personal theory and I don't want to act like anyone else's theory is wrong. I just took away something different and that's okay. These games are made to be seen through more than one perspective."_

Thank you for sharing! I used to subscribe wholeheartedly to the Time Loop theory myself, but after The Sounds of Nightmares, I've been reconsidering the possibility that the Thin Man is being replaced by a new child like the Lady is. That's why for this theory I left both options open, I think it works either way, and each side has compelling evidence imo.

Maybe it's because of that lack of narrative structure that the time loop theory has, but the Cycle of Abuse/Torment theory stuck out to me when considering the narrative implications. Maybe that's why I'm more drawn to it. LOL

Maybe in LN3 we can see the Fall of the Nowhere Cuz Low and Alone tries to Escape Nowhere But the only possible way to escape is to break the Cycle Meaning freeing Vital Characters like Thin Man (Signal Tower influence are spread around the Nowhere, In Sounds of Nightmares the door Noone Entered has an Eye which is Connected to Signal Tower but who knows maybe there's more Adults of Nowhere, That's incharge of the Nowhere, which currently are Ferryman and Thin Man, I think The Lady isn't part of it since her influence isn't as wide as this Two) But Ferryman would not let it We could see him in Action

in little nightmares 2 i believe that it's not a cycle but just the thin man coming back in time to stop himself from six,way less metaphorical. there is no proof to what happened to six after the end of little nightmares 1,she didn't not become THE lady,but she might became the next lady and if this is a loop,the events of the 1st game would not happen as six would be stuck in the cycle of little nightmares 2 (LN2 is a prequel to LN1 btw) This is just my theory and i can be proven wrong

I think the thing with thr thinman is that he wanted to Stop Mono from becoming the thinman taking Six corrupting her trying to protect Mono from beein betrayed again. The 6 on the door could be a warning for Mono that six will betray him

The Maw remind me of the biblical Leviathan - he emitt sweet fumes to lure lost souls to his maw, similiar to the food that lure the guests, and coils around the material plane, to stop soul to reach enlightment, by swallow them back to the cycle of rebirth in gnostic lore. Also, hes similiar ti the island-sized monsters, the ray-like yokai Akaei, norse hafgufa and lyngbakr, the base for the Kraken's legend.

The way you talk about the thin man and the lady being keepers, makes me think of Davey Jones from pirates of the Caribbean where the Dutchman has to have a captain in a similar manner. The question I’d ask is why these entities need to have a human figurehead? Are they needed to anchor them to reality? Are there there to provide the entities a way to understand humans enough to tempt them with things they would want? Or are they there to act as distractions to any who try to stop them by giving them a sock puppet target without revealing their true selves so any resistance won’t realise they are aiming the wrong way until they are caught?

i have a theory that the nowhere is a realm of either dreams or nightmares that some entity (or entities) are corrupting it causing the loops and the ferryman/candleman is trying to bring kids in with hopes that they could restore the spiral

At the end of the first game we can hear a ship coming to the maw, so I don't think six was just standing there to "rule" the sound of ship and how six walks out more likely suggests that she was going to leave that place

Idk man - 'why doesnt she get rid of the mirror or come after you when you break the vase?' because those are the game mechanics, you need to defeat the woman somehow and if you don't see the mirror you can't make the connection. The soot stuff falling from the fat doctor is because he's heavy on the ceiling, not because it's foreshadowing. It's a cool idea behind all this but I think a lot of the game is deliberaltely abstract, literally like a nightmare.

Hard to say for certain, and others might have a different take on this, but personally I think so. That's the great tragedy of LN2 - Six COULD have saved Mono from his terrible fate, but CHOOSES not to, and in doing so perpetuates the cycle of suffering. Had she chosen to pull him up instead, I don't think that necessarily would have ended the loop entirely, but Mono - at least, this specific "Mono" - would have been saved from it.

I have to tell you all my LN huge theory. Mono’s real power is not travelling in tvs… his real power is that he skipped death. Let me explain. In the comics, Mono is getting chased by a mysterious figure that IS NOT THE THINMAN. Then, he hides in a tv and gets killed (we can hear him getting killed) but he survives as a glitch. He kills his opponent and runs away. Before, he hide is face whit the paper bag (probably bc he was getting called ugly and bullied) but now he has to hide his Eyes because they are all pitch black bc he is now a glitch. Then, he meets Six/Noone and fights the THINMAN… BUT ! We never really see the THINMAN getting killed we only see him desepering… In the signal tower, if Mono/the player goes next to a door (not in it) we can see his true self… a glitch. That’s why when he fights the THINMAN his power his stronger than ever. He is tired of hiding is glitch side. Then he finds six/noone as a monster. When he calls her, he is literally destroying his desquise to rescue her. Then he gets betrayed. (In the room with the chair, if he screams,we will no longer see him as a glitch) So I don’t think that Mono is the THINMAN I think in the cutscene we only see THINMAN’s origins and we see how he once was a little boy like mono getting transformed. Also in the end of LN 1 dlc we can see him in the tv…

It's a really bold claim with no source or proof to back it up Chapter 6 of the mobile comics is probably my most hated chapter because I don't know what they were trying to achieve with and what it means? I gave up on it and just assumed that the Mono in chapter 6 is a previous Mono via cycle and not the current one we play as in game

Trauma by itself is not genetic, the actions of the adults transfer the trauma to the through their experiences together, for example if the adult is alcoholic and drinks daily then the kid watching all of this will end up being alcoholic

The lady couldn't be 5 or any numbers under 6 there are already children with those titles. I believe that low and alone will find a way to tether with the cycle and we will see the two favorite protagonist freed from being turned into adults and maybe they will reflect on each other hence lows power of mirrors or reflections. Or maybe he will only save six from becoming the lady with mirrors possibly

@@indiexplorergamesI’m pretty sure it got confirmed that the 6 on the thin man’s door isn’t actually there. Like someone found the texture to that specific door and there isn’t any sign of a number on it. I think maybe the lighting made it look like there was a 6 on the door? I’m not fully sure, but still an interesting theory nonetheless!

Your theory about the woman being five is incorrect because spoiler alert for anyone that has played very little nightmares but in the ending you see that the person you were playing as falls to her death. Plus your theory with seven could be correct if not for the fact that seven was truned into a geom than eaten by Six.

This might be a bit longwinded, but here’s my theory for it lol: The LN comics (which may or may not be canon) showcase six risking being around the janitor to obtain a music box. In LN2, she is discovered by mono entranced by the music box, and some say she betrays mono at the end because he destroys the music box. The music box could be symbolic of escapism; or youth. The lady keeps children aboard the maw and doesn’t kill them but instead turns them to nomes - she doesn’t have the heart to kill them. The reason she keeps them on the maw is because she uses magic to steal their youth and keep young. These powers are enabled by the mask she hides behind, which may have some kind of repelling effect when a mirror is in front of it, as we know from the DLCs a mirror doesn’t hurt the lady unmasked. Both six and the lady have an obsession or want to be as young as possible - six stays within her imagination around the music box, and the lady obviously has her youth-stealing powers.
