Thanks for the inspiring video, friend. Three years ago at age 59, I developed Afib, and wound up in urgent care with a pulse of 180-200 bpm. No blockages were found, but was a result of an unhealthy lifestyle, no exercise, bad food choices, too much beer, and not enough sleep. The cardiac Dr recommended exercise, a healthy diet, more sleep, and no alcohol. I followed his advice religiously, and began cycling almost every day on my Trek MTB, even in our cold Minnesota winter climate. I made a New Year's resolution to bike 1000 miles for 2023, (beginning with a 16-mile ride on Jan 1 )and easily surpassed my goal by mid-July. It's a satisfying obsession to ride everyday, regardless of the weather or temp. For my 62nd birthday I bought a new bike, and more cold-weather gear. Now at almost 2000 miles, I've lost 25 lbs, I'm heart healthy and never felt better. Watching your 100-mile ride gave me great joy and inspiration to keep going. Thank you, and keep on biking!

My wife and I bought cheap mountain bikes when I was fifty and we were both overweight smokers. Round the park became day rides became long weekends became every holiday touring New Zealand ( we are Australian) with panniers. When we retired we took our bikes to Europe for a few weeks every year and toured a different country each time. Sold our house in Australia, moved to France then Switzerland. Now age 78 and cycle in the mountains just about every day except in the snow season when we hike or ski. We have had a long and fantastic retirement mainly due to cycling, wishing you the same.

Well done, I am a fellow 70 year old cyclist and I also go regularly for 100 mile rides and my maximum is 205 km in a (long) day of which we have a few off in June here in scotland with sunset at 11pm. But I won't start at 4:30, that is just too early for me as I am a late person. So I ride from 8am to 11pm. I need to be back before sunset otherwise my wife will curtail my freedom to roam the wee and beautiful roads we have here in Scotland.

Good video Steve. Last year at the age of 73, I completed a tour I had been dreaming of for several years. I rode with at tour group from LA to Boston. People would tell me I was crazy, and ask why would it do that?. I had made a commitment about ten years back to get more active. I did that and as I got stronger, I found I could do more than I had expected. So, when people tell me "Oh, I could never do that." I reply, "Well, if you set your mind to it, you may be surprised what you can do." At the end of the tour, the director told me that I had been an inspiration to the young riders. I had never thought of myself in that way. You are an inspiration, too. Keep riding and keep vlogging.

I turned 60 this past April and did a metric century to celebrate the day. I also did a 72-miler this year. I’m looking to do a 100-mile ride next season. During the spring and summer, I get up at 5am and ride 10 or 12 miles before getting ready for work. On the weekends I average 35-50 miles a ride.

You are a better man than me. My knees won't carry me that far on a regular bike, but I just bought an Aventon Pace 500 ebike in mid-August and have been doing 50 plus mile rides here in Ohio and have ridden almost 900 miles in 2.5 months. Ohio has an extensive trail network that interconnects multiple trails in Xenia, OH where I can alternated my ride however I want. The ebike has opened a whole new bike riding chapter for me. Since the bike itself can only achieve perhaps 60 miles with pedal assist, I find I'm still getting a great workout as I have extended my rides as far as 105 miles by feathering the assist on and off. I only hope that I can still be riding when I'm 70 and beyond (currently 67). I'm hoping that I can stay healthy and attempt the Ohio-To-Erie Bike Trail next year at 326 miles. Keep on riding!!

This is a great inspirational video Steve. Nicely done. I restarted riding at 70. I’m a year and a half in now. I don’t do centuries but I do ride alternating daily rides of 30 to 60 Kms. And through in that I need to pick up small items at the store I ride there to achieve the errand. I ride most days in winter, save for inclement weather. I use Schwalbe spiked tires in winter when road conditions are wet. I have a group ride once a week, which introduces a great social element to riding. One group is a three season riding group and we ride about 35 Kms at an pace of around 25 kph (15 mph). The other group is a Winter Warriors group that rides every Saturday morning no matter the weather. Pacing is variable based on conditions. There’s no bad weather, just improper clothing. 😂 I love the group rides. They’re a great way to meet new friends.

Steve, although all your videos are incredibly inspiring, this one is particularly so to me. As a 70 year old cyclist just getting back to riding over the past 2 years, I've started becoming discouraged over how slow my progress has been. I guess I just remember my youth and how I used to ride forever without getting tired. My goal is to ride from Plymouth, MA to Provincetown, MA (~80 miles), but so far the longest I've been able to ride is 40 miles. Your 100 mile ride gives me hope that I'll eventually be able to reach my goal and that age is no barrier!

Hi Steve and thanks for sharing your riding and future plans. The way I can still ride long distances is slow and steady. High cadence in lower gears. No strain on the knees. That gets it done for me. You can do it. Take care, Steve

Thanks Steve. 71 living in the UK. I had to give up running post covid due to a metatarsal problem on my left foot. I had a bike that had sat in the shed for over 20 years so I decided to start riding. I love it as it has taken me to places on largely trails into nature surroundings on the National Cycle Network. In two years I have cycled many thousands of miles ( just shy of 4000 last year) on my mountain bike including my first coast to coast this year of 258 miles over 4 days, my first 100 miler in a day recently, and my training rides of 3 x 40 miles per week. I often rack up more mileage than this weekly. I have joined a club and ride with good people who are improving me and my body/health is fantastic imho. The benefits are great. Can't ask for more 👍😊

Hi Steve, thought I let you and your followers know about my ride on July 14th, 2018. At that time I was 71 yrs old on my way to Portland, Oregon from Seattle, Washington on what is commonly referred to as the STP. This is a 206 mile ride over one or two days depending on your choice. I completed this ride in the one day option with a ride time of 12 1/2 hrs and averaged 16.8 mph. Total ride time just over 16 hrs. which included 4 major supported rest stops. I would just like to shout out to all of us seniors who completed this ride in one day and say that senior riders just rock. We have the Cascade Bike Club here in Seattle that provide rides for people of all ages and abilities to ride in group rides free of charge all year long. They also culture a life style that is healthful but more importantly safe and fun that many many seniors in the Seattle area participate in. BTW I am still riding at 77 yrs old and on my regular routes of 30+ miles but on an independent basis.

I am 78 and my riding buddy is 71. We ride electrical assist mountain bikes everyday for 17 miles round trip. The majority of our ride is single track intermediate level. The electrical assist helps with the hills, and we still get a good workout. We ride the Fleming Meadow loop in Pollock Pines, California.

Great ride and video Steve. Us old guys have to keep going. I’m 71 and ride with a group every day . We are all 60’s to early 70’s with several riding an e bike for a little help. I do at least 30 miles daily and at the end of each month I ride a century. Just went over 10,000 miles today for the year and it’s just mid October. I ride a Catrike 559 and a 700 and they are kind on the body and the 700 is as fast as any road bike. It’s a super time to be alive and riding in New England! I ride all the trails on Cape Cod and wander the rest of New England in the summer and then off to Florida for the winter . Stay well and keep going!

If I had 100 miles of traffic free cycle tracks like that, I'd be riding all the time. However, I have to share the roads where I live with cars, vans and lorries doing 60mph passing me within touching distance. I'm within a few months of 70 and do try and cycle where and when I can, but I am very envious of this chap and his traffic free route.

Good ride Steve, I ride with my local club, been back riding seriously for about 7 years now-I’m 75 in 2 weeks time-the club does a 100 mile ride every year-this years was 10 days ago and was actually 128 miles. One of the guys I ride with is 80 and he did an 80 mile ride just because!

Great job sir! I’m 54 and have been riding most of my life. Casually. The limiting factor for me is the seat! My butt can’t handle it! Any comments? Also, I may not be 70 yet but my bike is! I ride a 1953 Schwinn Traveler that I refurbished and put back on the road.

Hi Greg, unless you want to invest in a $400 dollar Infinity Bike Seat infinifybikeseat.com I recommend going to a bike shop that has the ability to do a "bike seat fitting". The fitting measures your sit bones and they will recommend the correct seat. The Infinity seat is what I use for long distance touring and is the only seat I have found that doesn't cause pain on a ride over 15 miles. Thanks for watching, Steve

I enjoyed watching your video, “ young Steve” and well done you. A hundred mile ride is no small achievement at any age. I am 72 and still riding strong, “ though not as strong as I used to “ last year I rode in a team of six in the Skoda 24 hours of Le Mans, and I was a proper team member, not a passenger. So keep turning those pedals cycling is a great sport and so good for you.

Congrats! Nice to have what looks like an almost continuous tree lined bike path. At 76 I thought I was done cycling but all the climate change talk & getting tired of driving my gas guzzling, polluting car a short distance for groceries, I decided to purchase an electric cargo bike. I applaud you for going a 100 miles! It's good clean fun plus keeps you young.

You are an amazing man!! I am a 59 year old girl and I find 60 miles daunting! Next month I am heading down to Florida do ride a bunch of rail trails and check out the Villages, so I should be racking up the miles!! Anyway, if you watch Bryan's videos of Ride Along Adventures, on one of his rides in Florida, he talks about the science behind the tailwind vs. headwind, and if it really has an impact on your ride - well, you just proved, it DOES!!

Hi Amy and great to hear from you. Thanks for mentioning Ride Along Adventures. Looks like a great channel and I just subscribed. I'm also going to Melbourne FL on the 31st to visit with my children and grandchildren. I will use my daughters bike for some riding. There are a lot of nice paved trails as you know. There's one near Titusville that goes for many miles. Thanks again and have a great weekend! Take care, Steve

Its very nice to see you sporting so actively. Cycling is not only a sport but you a opportunity to be outside in nature looking feeling and enjoying. I am 66 and am cycling very regularly and everyday i enjoy from it. I wish you a lot of cycling fun, enjoyments and very healthy beautiful, days, months and years, just keeping doing the things you like the most but only one thing to care the most, its Autumn period and fallen leaves on the road are very risky now and the wet surface make it even more risky. Instead of using break, drop your speed, if it is possible. Take very good care of your self. You are really doing great and very perfect.

Thanks for sharing your 100 mile ride, great stuff. I'm 61 and had to give up my driving licence 8 years ago due to eyesight problems, living in a rural part of the UK cycling was my best option to get around. Although I owned a bike it hadn't seen much use, certainly no long rides, so back in the saddle and with encouragement from cycling friends I kept going - commuting and leisure rides. Last year I rode my first 100 mile ride. Cycling has made a huge difference to my fitness and I would recommend it to anyone. I hope that when I reach 70 I'm as fit as you are. Good luck to you - stay safe.
