Looking back on that era, when EPO was the undetectable dope of choice, what a charade played out in the '99 Giro. Likely as not, doping was widespread, for instance, the two guys dropped from the start for too high a hematocrit level! What BS....they were doping; the authorities just hadn't figured out how to detect it yet. Yea, the 1990's.....doping in the peloton was the order of the day.
