Welcome to the world of cycling. I recently started cycling again after a 25 year break and I'm already planning trip in Japan with bike. And "Yes" your own bike which is setup right makes a hell of a difference on long ride and that's coming from a guy who only started biking.

A Shinkansen blazing through a station never gets old... As a bike commuter I like the fact that you enjoyed the Biwa Tour, and I'm choosing to believe that the special kind of freedom a bike gives you had something to do with it. Thanks K&E, that was an enjoyable cycle-trek also from this end 🌸🚴‍♂️🌸🚴‍♀️🌸🐒

My wife and I went to Hikone Castle earlier this year. I was legitimately worried while going down the stairs in the castle. They were so steep (and slippery with socks instead of shoes on). But there were at least a dozen people who had to be 80 years old doing it so I can't whine too much. :)

This series was awesome! Please do more bike tours. :) @Kyde - As an avid cyclist, I would not suggest you use a road bike over a hybrid bike. A traditional road bike is geared for speed and typically not so great for climbing steep hills as the rear cog tends to not have as much range as a hybrid bike. This is especially important as you guys were bike packing with your luggage. Perhaps getting a touring bike might work for you with its longer and more comfortable wheelbase? Perhaps this is what you are referring to as a road bike because it has drop handle bars? Also, for tushy comfort: 1) Please consider buying a good pair of padded biking shorts - these make a huge difference. And you don't wear any underwear under these shorts as the seams will cause chafing. 2) For most people, saddle discomfort is because they are sitting on the wrong part of the saddle. This can normally be fixed by sliding the saddle about 5 to 8 mm forward on the seat post which will put your sit bones more to the rear of the saddle where it's wider and has more cushion. Keeping your saddle more level was a good decision near the end of your tour too. Lastly, if you can afford to get a suspension seat post, that would also add a ton of comfort to your long rides. 3) The more you ride, the more your tushy just gets used to the saddle and the less the discomfort. 4) If you watch pro riders, they stand up while coasting down hills or going over bumps. This gives your tushy the occasional break from all the pressure. Sorry for being so wordy. I just really hope you two keep on riding and making more of these videos!

This Biwa cycling trip was the one I liked most among your videos. There is something charming about cycling. The sweat and exhaustion on kyde’s facial expression makes the video very different. Had you used a car, it wouldn’t have conveyed the same degree of joy of the trip. I hope you join ブルべ Brevets race in Japan. It’s a long distance semi serious road race along a scenic landscape, very popular thing among Japanese cyclers for past few years but no Western KZbinr ever introduced it and almost no one in US knows about it. You would be the first.

Leaving bags on a bike without getting stolen is unbelievable. In the states I get my bag stolen on bike by stopping by CVS for 5 minutes. If I leave a nice bike (like the Bianchi bike in your video) more than a few hours, it’s gone even if I use U lock! Another comment is that google map and course map shot was REALLY helpful to enjoy your trip (I know you spent time to edit). Many cities and people’s Kanji names have double way to read. Even Toyota can be read as Toyoda. But so is some English name like Kirsten. Maibara picked the official name In 2001 and signs are mixed because pre- post 2001 signs are different.

Watching this reminded me of how much safer I used to feel cycling in Japan compared to Australia. In Japan motorists actually give cyclists space. In Australia motorists hate cyclists, give them as little space as possible, and in some cases try to run them off the road. On a lighter note, our equivalent of those cheeky crows would be sulphur-crested cockatoos. These smart little buggers get into anything, and have even learned how to open wheelie bins. A while ago, my wife and I were outdoors at a cafe when one swooped down and grabbed a sachet of sugar off the table. It then wedged it in a tree branch, pecked a hole in it, tipped it up and poured the sugar down its throat. Whoever came up with the expression "bird brain" had obviously never seen that.
@kurofune.uragabay
@kurofune.uragabay 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed on both counts. I have a lot of respect for the brains on some of the larger species of Psittaciformes and Corvidae. Not that long ago I saw here in "the Harbour City" a few pied currawongs snapping and throwing down the (very) heavy pods of the black-bean tree outside my window and wondered what the heck were they playing at... until on another occasion I saw one of them carefully climbing to a branch above a kookaburra they had been unsuccessfully harassing and then, _drop one of the pods on it_ ! (it missed)

I've done a few cycle tours and suggest a couple things: if you get your own bike try to find a touring bike, get a brooks leather seat as it will become the shape of your butt, and finally get some cycle shorts/bib shorts with padding which you can wear under normal clothes.

Best saddle I've used on a bike are actually hard ass brooks leather saddles. Hard as hell, but they shape to your but and become comfy. Padded saddles actually hurt more in a long run. That's why you don't see them much on road bikes.
