I am super jealous. Great stories. I hope to be going there sometime soon. Just to give you a little bit of unsolicited help, I noticed that your videos quality is too over exposed. much like mine were when I first bought my gopro. You may be using something else but I quickly learned that the ''factory presets'' were presets and must be changed. If you have GoPro, you might want to go to EV Comp and change it to -0.5 and play with the white balance between 5500 and 6500. I put colour as FLAT to be able to manipulate it in Post processing . I also sharpness at low. Anyhow, you might want to play with settings as the factory presets on my camera produced some awful images. As you get better (and I am a beginner), sun, cloud, snow and rain will require changes in the presets. It is worth it to play around with it. All that to say that I have really enjoyed your video and can't wait to go.

Thank you! Other than the drone, this was all filmed on my phone, which is why it's not great quality. And I know the drone stuff could have been better, direct sun made it worse for sure, and I was just learning to use it. Thanks for the tips though. The drone went for a swim in Vietnam, and now we just film with a GoPro (videos from Malaysia onwards..) cheers
@pstolee
@pstolee Ай бұрын
@@weridebikesplaces The drone shots were great! So I guess it was the phone. And again, they are the factory settings on the phone and not your fault but those settings actually distort ''the perception '' of what we see . That is why I do post production: to capture what I felt. Great job guys!

@weridebikesplaces

Thank you! We are on a world tour, so have the touring setup because of that. But also, due to the distances between towns, and cold nights, we needed every pannier to carry all the kit we needed to survive. I'd love to go back with a lighter setup for a shorter amount of time though

@@weridebikesplaces how many days food you carry and how many liters of water you carry i guess you carry all your camera gear and editing equipment too what temp rating is your sleeping sorry so many question but dailing in my world tour setup as i type
@weridebikesplaces
@weridebikesplaces 10 ай бұрын
No worries happy to answer any questions 😊 In Mongolia we'd carry 5-6 days worth of food at a time, and about 15L water between us, as well as a water filter. Our sleeping bags are 5 degree Celsius, but were not warm enough in Mongolia. We've been around Asia for all this year, and usually only carry 2 days food max, as there is food everywhere, and usually around 8L water as also places to fill up everywhere. All my filming and editing is done on my phone, but we also have the drone, and tablet computer, as well as kindles, cables, and with spare tubes and parts everything just adds up.. We're thinking of putting out a gear list video soon, but if you've got any other questions don't hesitate to ask
@Bikepacking
@Bikepacking 10 ай бұрын
@@weridebikesplaces "I appreciate your intriguing setup, and I'm definitely interested in seeing your gear list video. I've managed to streamline my equipment to carry 9 liters of water, 2 liters of fuel for the multi-fuel stove, a 4-season sleeping bag rated for temperatures as low as 0°F (-18°C), enough food to sustain me for about 7 days before resupply, camera gear for editing on my iPad Pro with LumaFusion, a couple of external hard drives, two cameras (one for primary footage and another for B-roll), and a drone. For power, I rely on a 60-watt solar panel and battery banks with a total capacity of 40,000 mAh. I've also packed appropriate 4-season clothing, essential tools, spare parts, and, of course, a comprehensive first aid kit. The challenging part was fitting all this gear on my bike without traditional panniers, opting for more of a bikepacking setup to explore single-track trails. I'm just putting the finishing touches on it now."
@weridebikesplaces
@weridebikesplaces 10 ай бұрын
Wow that's impressive to get all that in without panniers! I think it should be you doing the packing video!! I do make sure to have a bit of spare room in my panniers for times we'd like to carry pre cooked meals we've bought, or bulky packs of chips etc. And we've got too many clothes, but you live and learn..

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I completely understand, after all if you loose your bikes then you are (to put it as politely as I can) screwed. It just made me wonder if things were not as safe as they seemed on the surface. Can I ask if there has been any place/country where you haven't felt safe or comfortable? Thanks for your kind words! Still learning the filming and editing, so any encouragement is always welcome 😁 Unfortunately in Mongolia there is a bit of an alcohol problem in some of the rural town's, so when we were near them we would take a bit of extra care with our things. We've never felt truly unsafe anywhere I don't think, but are always most cautious when on the outskirts of towns, and try to camp as far from them as possible

Ha yeah it was purposefully slow. We decided to do less km's each day, to enjoy relaxed mornings and long afternoons at all the amazing camp spots. Time spent fishing in the rivers and sitting by the fire was often just as good as the riding. 2 weeks would be a great time, any amount of time exploring Mongolia would be great. We plan on spending more than a month next time
