Cycling the Ciro Rail Trail - Bosnia Herzegovina

The Ciro Rail Trail is a grand trip through the stunning countryside of Bosnia Herzegovina. Once you've left Croatia and headed up into the hills, you get away from people and traffic - bliss. The narrow gauge railway in Herzegovina/ Dubrovnik regions was built in the early 20th century, and connected Mostar with Dubrovnik and Konavle in Croatia. The first ‘’Ćiro’’ passed this railway on 15th July, 1901. The idea to revitalise this line as a bicycle rout was born jointly from both side of the border in order to preserve this railway line as a historical heritage and to develop new tourism offer. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
As many of the small towns along this route are now abandoned following the conflict in the 1990s, at times the trail can feel quite remote. We saw so much wildlife here as well - snakes, lizards, rabbits, bats and tortoises.
There are mines along the route - the signposting can be quite unnerving, but we (obviously) didn't find any!
The trail itself is a mixture between tarmac and gravel, and takes you through some stunning views.
Honestly - we chose this route to avoid the traffic on the Croatian coast, but the quiet beauty of this place won us over.

I see a lot of people come to ride this trail calling it Ciro, C like Cereal but the C is actually Ch (like Check) so it's CHiro, letter is specific to our language so it's hard to pronounce 😀 nice vid and FYI CHiro rail does not end in Mostar, we have a part of it even here in Sarajevo, nonetheless you are welcome back anytime!

One night we camped in the beer garden of a pub, and the other, we wild camped by wee river, it looked like people used the spot for fishing sometimes ☺️

S2E K9 Still on the TDF! I do really like the bike, but I have to say, if I was to go back in time, I'd choose the Surly Disc Trucker. Better gearing, easier to maintain and it fits fat tyres on it. I'm gonna do a review when I get home, next couple of months 😁

Nice video. I have to correct you, you are in Hercegovina, not Bosnia, Bosnia is north part of Bosnia and Herzegovina country, about 400-500 kilometers norther than your position. Thats mountain part of the country
