That scene with the dog is filming gold, it's funny how this little scenes of life naturally play out when the camera is turned on. Keep up the great work!

Great video. I could not agree more that the best way to travel is to get away from the tourist attractions and get a glimpse of life as it is in the country in which you are traveling. My experience is that the people are incredibly nice and open. Much more so than in my home country the USA.

Great video Alee! Just crossed that same bridge yesterday! The world can be so small sometimes. I'm glad you're enjoying the ride so far! Gotta say that I'm kind of amazed to see you cycling here. I first found your channel by watching your Hokkaido video last year, right after coming back from Japan myself! Once back in Buenos Aires, I had the feeling that something was missing and found myself watching biketouring videos all around... and so it is I found your channel. Needless to say, that one video really gave me the goosebumps, cause I kind of picked up a bike again in Japan, after decades of not riding one. Did the Shimanami-Kaido up there and loved it. Seeing the Japanese roads again on camera was a strong sensation... Life changing, really. I decided to buy myself a bike and start riding down here in Argentina. Thanks for the inspiration mate and keep those videos rolling in! :) Chers and safe travels! Manu

Manu - that's really cool! You're lucky to live in such a diverse country in terms of environment. I think it's always easy to overlook your own country as a travel destination, but when you get out there, you realise it's just as good as everywhere else! All the best.

Hi. I'm interested in your developing a bit more about your choice of turning east, although you might not like to share your personal thoughts publicly lest you'd cross someone unintentionally. I felt that your take on carretera austral is not as enthusiastic as what is usually read/heard everywhere. I have actually brought up this point with a friend who cycled there and loved it (she did it in december, earlier in the season). My fear was that the CA being so famous now, it becomes less possible to live an adventure in the same way. Local folks, quite naturally, can't have the same attitude with cyclist when 100s pass by in a season that when you are the first one to show up in their remote place.
@Cyclingabout
@Cyclingabout 6 жыл бұрын
I'm not too sure what else to add regarding heading east. I was looking for a change and thought it'd be cool to see what was happening in La Pampa, Buenos Aires, Uruguay and Brazil. So I turned right! No regrets with that decision either. 😊 Regarding the Carretera Austral, I was trying to be as honest about the experience as possible. I think a lot of people feel the need to tell everyone how amazing it is because that is its reputation. But there are sections that are pretty average (compared to so many other places I've been). Like you say, it's not really an 'adventure' anymore in the sense that you're riding on uncharted territory. There are places to stay and small shops the whole way. But I still recommend that people do it!
@tve1964
@tve1964 6 жыл бұрын
OK. Thanks for your reply. Your video definitely shows that there is some adventure and great human encounters to be lived going east. I must admit that I too am motivated by the unknown. Discovery in a way excites me more than checking off what everybody else tend to bring up as THE thing to do. Hence I've cycled many times around Mont Ventoux in France (beautiful area) and have been on it by car and snow shoeing in winter (when the road is closed), but never yet climbed it on my bike (I live an 1,5 hour from the bottom). I know I will one day so have nothing against it. Just that when I have an opportunity to tread less cycled small roads I seem to choose that instead.

Cycling Northern Argentina. Dusk fell, no sign of a camp spot - semi urban area. Pulled into kiosko with large carpark - puede acamper aqui in my broken Spanish. The owner spoke rapid Spanish, someone else said wait here. Ok, I wait. 10mins later a Policeman on a motorbike pulls up. Younger so has slightly more English. I was to follow him to the Police Station where I could camp. Dear reader - I followed the Policeman on his motorbike for all of 200ms with his blue flashing light going full tilt. I had to laugh. He showed me where to set up my tent, and although the night was very hot, I managed to sleep some. Next morning, made coffee/porridge then packed up - bidding farewell in my basic Spanish to the very confused office lady.

Quite the opposite travelling style and reactions from locals compared to the immature behaviour of Jeremy Clarkson. Your videos are quite addictive. I rather like your understatement. I'm glad the dog facing you falling was one of the nice kind.

@Cyclingabout

I saw two really strange things in Argentina: half a dead horse on the side of the road (like it had been torn in half), but there was no blood and no sign of being hit by a truck etc. And lights on the horizon behind me while I was cycling at night that were there for far longer than I thought possible.

Yeah, when having mate if you say 'thanks' its gon a be interpreted as 'thanks I'm done' and you wont be served any more. You dont take just one mate, you keep on drinking and shifting the mate until theres no more hot water left. Thus, it would be kind of annoying to be in a gathering and hearing 'thank you' literally every 15-20 seconds lol
